Hi

If you look at the photo's you will see in one above the Ransomes word is painted out, ill explain.

The Land Rover was purchased in the early 1960's by Ransomes of Ipswich when it was converted into the Factory Fire Engine. Back in the day the Nacton site was huge and the Fire Engine lived in a factory Fire Station on site. In 1974 it was sold to Paxman Diesels in Colchester again for the same reason, first aid on site. It had company logo's applied over the painted out Ransomes wording.I found it via a contact and managed to buy it with my brother a few years back as the factory site again shrunk not requiring a dedicated fire engine. Its a unique survivor effectively being in service from 1963 till the mid 00's.

All original, lived under cover most of its life hence the need to re build the original engine.

(p.s. should add it has spent all of its life in East Anglia, started in Norwich (mann egerton dealer plate fitted on the seat box, then to Suffolk, and finally Essex where it still now lives).

Under the red paint is Ransomes blue, under that is yellow then factory green. I would love to able able to prove the yellow is Coleman's of Norwich........ 1984 One-Ten CSW

True to his word, today Richard and his brother Alan gave the newly rebuilt diesel engine its longest road-run yet.

All the way from the balmy estuarine resort of Maldon to the frozen wastes of north Essex!

They even trusted me to have a little drive in it, knowing I am a long-term 2lt diesel enthusiast.

I stored this vehicle in my barn several years ago, but since then the brothers have done an excellent job of bringing it back to peak condition.

This being a Defender forum, I felt obliged to park my 2.5 petrol Defender next to it. Whistle

Thanks for the hospitality this morning Charles and your expert eye. This has been a very long road to the finishing line,so thanks for your support over the years. You mentioned storing the Fire Engine, this from a very cold New Years Eve in 2008.......

Indeed Mr C... Your 90 in light/mid grey is very appealing.

Are the wing tops original 1991 or a later addition? Working towards Carry on camping!

Well it was built in December 1990 (1991 model year) in the new Pennine Grey but the factory kept it for nearly a year un-registered.

What they did with it during that 11 months is unknown but I suspect it may have been used for decal trials, as the side decals are for 1992 model year, but are not to production standard. (There are no cut-outs around the door handles).

I have no idea if the wing-top chequerplate was added at the same time!

(Apologies for the hi-jack Richard. Embarassed )
