I have no experience of their automotive, motor cycle or marine engines but I've used their power equipment engines for over 40 years and cannot fault them. I don't however think I'm quite old enough to drive their cars yet though Whistle Defender 90XS SW

I was thinking off the V-Tech engines that they put in the Type R's they are NA engines and very little electrics and once you get the revs above 2 or 3 thousand the extra power kicks in and they are very reliable to Whistle Clayton.

Most of the pre-2005 Honda motors are reverse rotation. So I guess it would depend how well you can drive backwards Rolling with laughter

A colleague of mine looked at a 90´s Defender fitted with a 2.0 Litre four cylinder engine that was up for sale last year in Berlin. Apparently a Honda engine. He said it was one of the editions built for the Italian police back the, and it drove quite well.
Here´s one. Twin cam 16 valve 2.0....

I think the engine in the Defender in the link is the old Rover M16, a direct descendent of the aincient BL O and B Series. Was used in Discovery for a short while. Not a bad engine in its day, my Dad had a Rover 420 with it in, was quite fast if I recall. Not really suited to a big 4x4 I wouldn’t think though. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
