Just a thought actually Mash. It hasn't hydrolocked on diesel has it? Might be worth popping out the injectors 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Hadn’t thought of that grafty will have a look when I get a chance, I’ve managed to bag a complete engine with full service history for £500 so hopefully I can fit that next weekend.
Procta I would need to do a fair bit of graft to fit a 300tdi, I did choose the Td5 for a little bit of refinement on the longer drives Still loads to do whilst I wait for the engine, just a pain pushing it in and out 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

i know how you feel mash, I was sold a dud engine years ago for my vvc metro project, Engine ran a ok, but as soon as things started to warm up properly. Bear this in mind the car never even moved off the drive. The engine started to scream and the engine bay was full of water! Powered that off very quickly, fired it up and it sounded like it was like a diesel. When we removed a few things we found out that the head had been off and idiot had chewed a engine bolt to the point where you couldn't get that out, and then they had damaged the vvc pick up cam, Which was about 500 quid to replace! So that engine was scrap straight away! me and my dad were proper off, as we had just got the car back together. The lads on the forum at the time who were following the project, really did feel for us too. Wasn't fun pulling it all back and dropping another lump again. Really did kill the fun of doing the project that did, and in the end I wanted to just get the thing on the road and get some enjoyment out of it.
If its hydrolocked on fuel, could it be easier fix? By letting it dry out after the injectors are removed. Has it been remapped or anything like that? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

By the amount of white smoke in the pictures I would be surprised if it hadn't hydrolocked on fuel 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Finally managed to get some investigating done today, took out each injector (bar one as the cam position wouldn’t let me remove it completely) at a time and tried to rotate the engine, no luck.
Looking down the timing chain I can see my crank moving but nothing else, as I’m going to at some point be pulling it all apart I decided to mark the cam and cam sprocket, loosen off the 3 bolts and test, now I have full movement to here so it appears my cam has seized 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

Ok so what to do with Buggsy?
Engine broke ? Yes, yes it is. New one on route ? Yes............. ok prep for removal. So this weekend consisted of removing all looms, pipes, nuts, bolts and anything else I could see holding the engine in, well that didn’t take too long so I was able to start on a few other things. First thing on the list was fit the new door seals to see if I could reduce the water ingress into the vehicle, drivers door went great, then onto the rear door, I removed the old seal and notice the roof and the correct panel didn’t line up very well: Click image to enlarge A little while later and I had it looking like this: Click image to enlarge With that much better I moved onto the lip the seal sits on and started to strained out bits like this: Click image to enlarge All seals fitted so will now see how dry it is tomorrow. With the seals sorted I thought I would make a start on removing 15 years of grime from the seatbox and rear bulkhead, I had some spare fatmat so decided I might as well make a start on the sound proofing: Click image to enlarge I have do a few other small bits but forgot the pics so will update later on 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

I’ve not had much time on Buggsy this week but have been doing a few bits, I continued with the cleaning out of grime from the seatbox / battery tray and fitted more soundproofing;
Click image to enlarge Moving on to the door retaining brackets, after looking at the cost of replacements I decided to clean up mine and refit them; Click image to enlarge A lot of corrosion on the brackets from the various leaks that have been left for so long, some time with a wire wheel and a coat of red-oxide later; Click image to enlarge And finally a coat of satin black; Click image to enlarge After the rust converter has done its job I thought I would add a little paint over the top and add another layer to the footwell, unfortunately I only had black paint but as it will all be covered by matting and insulation it’s not a big problem; Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Finally today I refitted the seats and started to add the factory seatbox cover; Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Hopefully tomorrow I will have my engine chains back so I can pull the dead engine and make a start on cleaning the chassis and external foot wells in preparation for dinitrol. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |
