Cheers Simon.
I should've gone to Specsavers..... It would have helped if I'd searched using the correct terminology! Nice one. Off to spend my well-earned pocket money........ |

You often find vehicle converters selling this kind of thing on Ebay, when they've been taken out during conversion. I bought 20 from a Transit or similar, new take-off, complete with fasteners, for about a tenner.

You're not wrong there. I've had a look on EBay (using the right search terminology helps!) and there's loads of them.
Trouble is now - I've gone form not being able to find them to being spoiled for choice! I've found the Landrover genuine parts at a decent price but if I put something that nice and shiny in there then the wife and kids are only going to want me to spend more pocket money on a shiny stainless rear cill/ seal strip, and then on shiny nuts and bolts for the seats....... Strangely enough, and I'm not complaining, SWMBO seems to like these little finishing touches and she's making allowances with my pocket money. I'm not going to tell her that it's a Land Rover and meant to be a little scruffy! I think Father's Day is coming up..... Thanks for the pointers. |

If your vehicle is fully carpeted and these are heavily corroded then I'd be trying to find out where the water is coming in, has the carpet just helped to keep the area wet, is it ruined, is there any metal left to bolt a new one in through?
Give some thought to sealing the bolt on the wheel side, LR don't from new and it's just a leak path into the rear tub. |

Yes, very good point. Thanks.
The tub/carpet is bone dry ( it's the rest of the truck that's leaking !!!) let me explain, as I didn't do it properly above. The previous owner had a rubber load liner with holes in where the tie down eyelets poked through. They obviously had water in there and/or hosed it out (poorly) over the years. The carpet hasn't got any rust/ oxidisation stains around the eyelets (remarkably, and they are original) and the nut/bolts look ok too. It's the 'hinge' element of the eyelet that's looking worse for wear. Don't get me wrong, a bit of WD, a clean, and a spot of paint would do the trick, but if I can get new ones for a decent price I'd rather do that - and yes, I will ensure that the under arch work is waterproofed - as I know exactly what you mean about water ingress. It's all good fun and there's nothing better than a good tinkering on a 'summer's day.' And yes, I am a bit of an anorak - most people wouldn't be bothered about this level of detail! |
