Well personally I'd never use it, use a proper additive such as Millers.
In-fact that maybe you best bet, from now onwards to clean everything up. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Have to agree!
what is the point in petrol company's refining quality diesel, car manufacturers developing precision Diesel engines, If your going to whack a load of two stroke oil through it? Quote.... The results of a study that the practice of dosing diesel with 2-stroke oil is surprisingly ineffective in terms of lubricity and cetane improvements. Engine performance, fuel consumption and emissions were also unchanged, however the use of 2-stroke oil in diesel is potentially harmful to modern diesel injection equipment. Trace amounts of zinc, an element which is found in most 2-stroke oils, are well known to cause injector nozzle fouling and the study measured high levels of injector fouling when the test engine was running on diesel dosed with 2-stroke oil. While the oil industry may not mind the additional revenue from the sale of 2-stroke oil with each tank of diesel, this study demonstrated that it is not in the best interest of the user to do so. I know there will always be a debate about this, and many on here swear by it, Personally I wouldn't bother... ![]() Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I do not see how 2 stroke oil would make the engine turn over slowly

Until recent events I was certainly convinced that it was beneficial to use 2 stroke as the engine felt smoother, however I am thinking I will not put anymore in again and just use premium diesel.

Fly drive - the only thing I could think of was that the diesel was ‘waxing’ with the 2 stroke added in the cold weather and making it difficult to turn the FIP due to pressure, hence making the engine hard to turn over. That’s my laymans diagnosis any way. Someone who knows what they are talking about may have a better theory.

2-stroke might make it less willing to start, but i expect being slow to turn over was just because it was cold. Even with a new fully charged battery an engine will be more sluggish to turn over in freezing conditions than when it's warm.
I just use premium diesel, and not mess about with additives. |

The only post with a correct deduction I always use the 2SO also at -20 ° C with Arctic Premium diesel and I have covered 120.000km without any problem, indeed .... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition ![]() IID Pro MV License |

Many years ago, after reading on here about the so called benefits of 2SO, I asked the tecchies at my dealer about possible benefits of 2SO additives. They just started rolling their eyes and shaking their heads, asking me what I thought the benefits can be of adding a lubricating oil meant for mopeds running on gasoline.
So I'm permanently using BP Ultimate diesel for at least 8 or 9 years now, which here in Switzerland comes with zero % biodiesel content, an additional benefit. Seems to have all the additives a modern diesel engine and fuel tank can dream of. Distinctly better engine noise than the french supermarket diesels I used in my very early Defender days. My experience is that BP Ultimate is just what the doctor ordered. ![]() Eric ![]() Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender.
