Replacing Headlight bulbs
When replacing headlight bulbs I assume you do it from the outside. Does one take off that big plastic squate plate or can you only somehow screw out the lens housing itself?

Yes from the outside, you'll find out how rusty the retainer rings are when you do it Laughing

Take out the sidelight and indicator the the plastic panel and go from there.. Easier access then otherwise you risk dripping the light by accident. You also only need to remove one screw on the headlight bezels or you will put the adjustment out of alignment. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to tell you the exact positioning of the screws I mean. I'm afraid I can't remember now. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

On my TD5 I did it through the back, because I'm an awkward sod.

of the four screws in the main headlight bezel the ones in the 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock position are used to adjust the beam alignment

Sounds right to me. I did it myself but was nearly a year ago so I've forgot which one's now off the top of my head. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

Are you saying you can remove the glass and access the bulb by only removing one of the four screws holding the glass to the bezel?

Yes I did. Mainly because I didn't want to mess the alignment up. Turns out MOT time I did anyway by changing over to Crystals anyway I assume because of a different unit. However for a simple bulb change you should only have to remove one screw per headlight remove change and re-fit. As simple as that. No Guts, No Glory.

Nice little write-up here you may find useful in buster's guides...

It really is a simple 5-10 minute job. Do it as per kmac's pic from the handbook above. Once you have the indicator and sidelight units off and removed the plastic trim, remove the four larger cross head screws that secure the bowl to the wing and pull the whole lot complete with headlamp leveller out. There's no need to touch the bezel screws, the headlamp adjuster screws are the ones with the springs underneath so there should be no confusing them.

One thing to watch for is don't let any of he four screws drop down through the small slit in the headlamp box - best cover that with a bit of masking tape first. One trick is to use double sided tape which will ensure the screw will just drop and stick and not fall down through the slit into a small box section from which they are a PITA to get out. Steve.

Spoken like a man with true experience of Land Rovers. I lost half-an-hour to a screw in that slot before!
