Sounds like Grenadier are getting "Magovenitis".

They will be saying that they are minimising the styling and charging an extra 20K

I was very disappointed to read Ineos were going down the clichéd, bespoke, "autobiography" road.
It won't do anything for the reputation that they are still trying to build.

Are they now chasing the G Wagen market, instead of the old Defender? Confused

I tend to agree. I was expecting they would have started off with something quite basic and a darn sight cheaper and used it to build a reputation with utility users, then later release some higher end versions. With the initial launch versions including the Fieldmaster and Trialmaster versions and now this it's all a bit Gerryesque.

There could be an argument that the market they envisaged doesn't actually exist and now they realise they're going to have to change tack to wiggle their way into the market we all assumed they were going to end up chasing...

I suppose what would be interesting is to know their "at cost" price. If it's relatively low, they could have found their original target (as suggested) by offering low tech, basic models. But then again, I couldn't afford one either way, so maybe they have a better understanding of it all than I do! Laughing The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

Firstly, I have said it before, I will say it again. I really like the Grenadier and would buy one, if I could afford one. Like you Ianb, I can't. I would buy one of these over a LR Defender.

I agree with what you say. Our local farmer runs a 300tdi 90 and a td5 90 because he loves Land Rovers, but his son is on his second Ford Ranger. There are loads of Farmers in Norfolk who drive either a Ford Ranger (once upon a time, a Mazda if anyone can remember that far back) or a Japanese Pickup be it Toyota, Nissan, or Mitsubishi. Unless you own an estate, or you need a vehicle for your estate manager, I have to agree that the envisaged market that Ineos were chasing, I don't believe exist any more either.

I really rate the Ford Ranger. My old company had a few on the fleet. They hardly ever gave us any problems and a few of them did really high mileages. If I was looking for a work horse and I was a Farmer, or contractor, that's what I would be buying. Not a new Defender and not a Grenadier.

Just my opinion.

Off Topic Was chatting to the mechanic at my local LR indy a few weeks ago. He bought a Toyota Hi-Lux as he said he spent all day fixing Land Rover's, he would rather have something which was reliable so he didn't have to spend all weekend fixing his own Rolling with laughter

^^ Interesting, I heard similar from a friend of mine who repairs Land Rovers for a living, he’s a really good agricultural engineer and although he loves the older Land Rovers he had a farmer customer some years ago who’s Defender was forever giving him problems, so he told him to buy a Land Cruiser which he did and he’s never had to go back other than for routine servicing.

I think you're right Rashers. An Ineos (to me) is far too "nice" a vehicle to be the Defender work horse that I believe it's goal was to be, especially at it's cost.

So many other vehicles can be picked up at a 2nd hand fraction of the price of an Ineos and be used and sort of abused.

I reckon the 2nd hand market for Grenadiers/quartermasters will be awesome once their price drops a bit and I guess it's not a vehicle I'd rule out owning, certainly ranks miles above the new pretender.

I'm 99% sure I saw a Quartermaster driving in Plymouth today, I was in our car, so was sitting at normal driving height and couldn't see anything properly, so can't confirm Laughing The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

As our Defender is our "normal" car I'd find the automatic gearbox on the Grenadier odd for awhile, never having used an automatic.
Now I was out in the series 111 2.25 diesel yesterday and no matter how alien the automatic gearbox on the Grenadier would feel I am sure after the series 111 it would feel like a Godsend! I live in a rural area so the series 111 gearbox is fine. I dread to think what it would be like at a busy city junction at rush hour!
I suppose Jim Ratcliffe wanted to give us a modern Defender for the 21st century but I suppose any "modernisation" of the Defender was bound to take away from what it was.
Both are good vehicles, just that one of them is more expensive for what people want to use the cheaper version for. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Hahaha oddly our Defender is more enjoyable to drive in traffic than our car. The car has an unbelievably heavy clutch compared to the Defender.

I'd like to test a grenadier, but firstly I wouldn't want to fall in love with one, and secondly I have a feeling the Ineos staff might look at me and not let me near Laughing The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

I have only ever seen a couple on the road. We have a local dealer and I have seen their demonstrator floating around a bit, but very few others.

I just thought I would have seen a few more around Norfolk?
