So we just finished a small ridging job and i thought that this would be a good one to show you a bit more of what goes into the end result.
I am only concentrating on one side as the work on the other side is basically the same Before we start putting the ridging reed on we have to put a ridge roll on which we make on site as we can make the size of the roll we require ......... Click image to enlarge here it is on the ridge in place, this is to help give us a straight ish line to go with ....................... Click image to enlarge The roof has been dressed this side already, as we have seen before in this thread and i have put the block line on, it's called a block line as it's raised up and will last much longer than what we call a flush ridge, nothing raised, all in line with the main coat ..... Then the top line goes on which we call the ridge lane
The bundles of reed look like this when they come to us ..... Click image to enlarge Then we split them down to smaller bundles that look like this ........... Click image to enlarge Then you get about 4 to 5 smaller bundles and then you tie them up in a bigger bundle ready to be carried up on to the roof to be used that look like this ...... Click image to enlarge While i am putting the smaller bundles of reed on my work mate is coming along behind me trimming it up and making it look right ................ Click image to enlarge Once both sides have been done and trimmed they will look like this with the roof brushed down to get all of the rubbish off ................... Good stuff Clayton. I really enjoy this thread. So nice to see these traditional skills being kept alive in a world of new builds with concrete roofs.
