Fantastic what you’ve done to the Defender. Looks like you’re making the most of it. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

The joys of a defender eh Gary! There’s always something that needs attention Shocked Trip to France looked great, wouldn’t mind a place in the Midi Pyrenees!

Wow wyvern, I can’t believe how much you’ve managed to fit into a defender!
I’m a recent first time defender owner and I’m very interested in fitting a heater in the cubby box like yours. I can’t seem to find any other pictures of them fitted, Looking at your photos at the start of this thread aside from lifting the cubby box it looks like it also pushes the cubby backwards towards the rear. Do you know how far backwards & if that would cause and issue with the rear seats folding forward?
Amazing work Thumbs Up

Hi Dr Meat
Many thanks for your kind comments. Its an ongoing project as all campers are!

The cubby box stays in the same location, just higher. the cubby is in line with the seats backs and as far as I am aware it does not encroach into the 2nd row foot well any more than before fitting - but as i has a subwoofer fitted, the 2nd row was always tight to fold down before the conversion started.

https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530-90.html - you can see this from the photo on page 7 of this page after removing the subwoofer and adding a power inverter.

hope that helps !

Thankyou Wyvern for taking the time to respond. In the image below to me it appeared to be moved backwards a couple of inches, it’s good to her that my not be the case. I might be doing something wrong but I can’t seem to find any pictures other than yours of the heater cubby box fitted on the web.
Look forward to seeing more posts about Poppy

You’re welcome Dr Meat
There are a few of us who have converted our defenders for overlanding - Timcat is one of the ones who I admire on here with his ideas and high quality work.

We all share our ideas so as people can learn from our mistakes, make their own choices and build their unique dream vehicle.
There is no right or wrong way to do things, just plan to suit your own unique and specific needs.

Looking forward to seeing your conversion.

Well some more things have been added to Poppy over the last few weeks..

first job was to tackle the air vent selector which ended up much easier than I had anticipated, and was only the selector mechanism had jumped out of the slot, so 10 min job to reposition and all was well !
This only required the front facia removal rather than removing the entire dash again.

While I was there I replaced one of the heater lights which has been out of action for a while, and again it was an easy task helped by the use of some old surgical forceps to grasp the bulb! result was a return to a much brighter dash at night.

The final job I undertook was the fitting of cruse control. I have been considering this for several years and eventually took the plunge after my partner wanted this for her 110 due to the increase of 20mph zones around Cornwall. The unit I chose has been reviewed and fitted by several members on here, the CANM8 system which has some useful features including 2 memories and a limiter. - same as this one here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic84963...se+control

The fitting has been covered on the forum before, so this was really useful in helping me fit this, however I had a couple of little hiccups that had to be worked out !
one was the removal of the accelerator peddle as I was not aware that the nuts were not captive and had to secure them from turning to remove the peddle.
The next was the need to connect to a 'black and red cable' behind the dash binnacle .. I found that there were 4 such coloured cables and went thought 3 of them before finding the right one ... so the job which would have taken me 2 hrs took 5hrs - but it was well worth it !

On my regular drive back to work from Cornwall to Aberdeen I was able to get 40 miles extra out of half a tank sitting at 65mph on the motorways.
Driving was so much more relaxing and less stressful, the ability of setting the limiter when in road works or 20mph areas protected me from accidentally exceeding the speed limit - so all in all its a great addition to Poppy which I can see will be well used in the future.

After an investigation into the rumble in the gearbox, I as advised to have the gearbox rebuild as there was some play on the shafts. Nothing was broken but it was going that way.
At the same time I had an MOT and this pointed to the replacement of the Power steering hydraulic lines and some bushes which were all accomplished at the same time.
So now we have a much quieter vehicle which corners a tad better and this was proven on my last drive up to Aberdeen.
Ive a new ARB air pump to fit to the 110 and am torn between keeping it portable with an Anderson connector in a small box or mounting it permanently in the vehicle .. pros and cons for both at the moment ... may be start as portable and see how it goes on and can hard mount it some time in the future if needed.

So now we have the vehicle sorted we are making plans for the summer trips.

First on the agenda is to support the Ten-Tors event on Dartmoor with DC4x4 response. We have been assigned to the Dartmoor Rescue Group Oakhampton team this year so looking forward to working with them over the event.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Tors

After the event we are off to undertake the Northumberland 250 route, taking about a week wandering all over the county. We enjoyed the NC500 so thought that we would give this a go and explore the area taking on the route as per the recommendation but will probably visit other sites along the wayhttps://northumberland250.com

In June we are looking to pop over to Sweden and visit some family, taking in the Malmo bridge and as many sites as we can fit in on the route. its going to be the first long route we have done for a while so we are looking forward to the trip. Dover to Dunkirk then up to Denmark and over the bridge into Sweden, then north.
We found a site that gives a discount on the bridge tolls so may help save a little on the expensive bridge crossings ...

Then later in the year we are going on a tour of Wales with the Landrover Charity Group, with some camping and tours around the hills and valleys of the country with some great people raising money for charities.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Gary Thumbs Up Henry is looking a bit worse for ware after the central Kalahari & salt pans! He’s got a lot less paint than he used to have from the thorn bushes!
And saving landcrusers ( two in two days)

We are planning a similar route in May, Dover to Calais, up to Denmark, over the bridge into Sweden and then across to Norway. Thanks for posting that link with the bridge discount, I didn't know about that so will help us out too Thumbs Up

Hi Teario,
glad you found that useful - there is also a link here for the toll road payments that will make things easier for you - we did a trip a while ago and registering with the system made it much easier in Norway and Sweden -

Hi TimCat
Ive been keeping up with the adventures on your fabulous Blog .. so am seeing the things that you have both been up to !
War wounds and paint loss from proper use are much better than supermarket dings !!
Sad to see the poor Landcrusers in need of support from a lowly defender .... Rolling with laughter

keep up the good work and looking forward to the next instalments !
