Windscreen rubber replacement
Mine has split so having trawled through the posts on here where people had recommended Autoglass I rang them to see what it would cost for them to replace the rubber only. The simple answer is that they wouldn't do it. They would only replace the windscreen. And the cost of that was Ł300. Thieving ********.

I then rang a local independent who quoted Ł70 for a new rubber and installation and if it needs a new windscreen it's another Ł32. Much better.

Typically best to replace both in case there were any weaknesses.

Remember there are different glass types and brands with varying quality.
Genuine would not be cheap, cheap is not always good. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I've been led to believe the aftermarket rubber seals are too fat and you risk cracking the glass when fitting them. So make sure you get an assurance from the fitter that if they glass gets broken while refitting he'll replace the glass at his own expense.

Cheap screens can end up with optical flaws in them, they're horrible. Ł32 is probably a standard non tinted, non heated screen. It'll be more if yours is heated, it would be daft not to fit a tinted one even if yours wasn't originally. They take the edge off the heat on a sunny day.

That sounds too cheap to me?

Job Done. I went for replacement screen as there was a chip in the original that I hadn't spotted. The new screen is from Pilkington and I went for a tinted one for Ł38. Total fitted price with new rubber was Ł108. So I don't know what would have been better for Autoglass to quote Ł300.

You don't know me do you? No I would not attempt anything as complicated as that! The price was fitted.
