I have one of these. Only needs power socket and aerial connection if you want extended range. Can take out when not needed or use as walkie talkie.

That looks good, shame I cannot justify purchasing at the moment.
If I read it correctly you can use an exterior aerial for extended range is that correct? I'd have to learn how to use one first even if I had one. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

That is correct. I have a whip aerial on the wing for it. With the coax running into the cab. Can connect that and power and gives about 4-5 miles range. Most use is just been talking front to back of a convoy green laning. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Regularly see many discos with whip aerials.
I will definitely look into it at some point but can't just at the moment. Quite a good price too for once and not extortionate. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Would not think you had time to dream about whips with all the planning you got to do

Made this short teaser for a film about offroading on Salisbury Plain (the film comes out on Friday). Hope it brings some inspiration!

Only in Essex. On a different note. I'm seeing what I can sort right now, will be quite a late one tonight. I've just purchased some more OS map tiles I need for the area. The plan is meet up at at mid day at the meet location and allowing for any that maybe a bit late. Hopefully head out at 1pm quite early. And we have the first lane sorted out, I'm right now going to plan the rest south from the meet location to th Plains and hopefully in some sort of loop. We will have to see what the weather is like at the time, and hopefully we should have good access and few TRO's. No doubt we will highly likely have to have a detour on some, but is not something you can fully plan for. Will update here shortly. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Well it certainly is late now.
Lane 2 'Furze Hill'. Click image to enlarge Route guide from Barbury Castle down to Chirton, incorporating Lane 1 & 2. Click image to enlarge This brings us to the edge of the Plains, from here onwards lanes very much depend on whether the flags are up or not. I will continue with this tomorrow hopefully. Anyone like to put forwards any suggestions from Chirton onwards? No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I will say, if you're not leaving the first location until 1300h, then doing byways out towards Marlborough then onto the areas, you won't get much "salisbury plain" time in...
I'd be meeting at 0800 or 0900 myself. |

Furze hill is a nice byway, a few gates on it though (And sheep in the last couple of fields)
It might pay to have someone stand at the last gate to help the convoy out onto the road, it's on a bit of a bend and there isn't much room to faff about... although more or less directly across the road is a small parking area, so I'd suggest you pull across and park there until everyone is out the lane and the gate shut. From Furze hill, if you head south to Alton Barnes/ Woodborough/Broad street and Wilsford, pull out onto the main A342 west for about 100 yds, then take the byway (which will be on your left) It goes up a steep climb right onto the edge of the ranges. It used to be a really rough deeply rutted axle twister, scratchy, difflock or winch job (or just rant the tits off your vehicle), but now it's been graded, and easily driveable but still with a few ruts at the bottom. Non damaging. quite nice now. the one opposite Charlton St Peter (SU1140 5579) used to be quite scratchy as well, but I've not looked at it for a while so can't comment) |
