Door seal question
So whilst fitting new door entry sills I noticed the dreaded wet footwellls. I’ve been poring over the numerous threads on possible sources and solutions and and such getting round the various things that may help stop water ingress. I noticed that there was a bit of a check on the door seal on rear offside. Shown in photo below. Does this need replaced? Tbh I couldn’t tell if water was getting in there. It’s both footwells so much more likely to be coming from the front(windscreen frame/hinge block area)

I solved the leak in my footwell by sealing round the windscreen and putting sikaflex over the bulkhead seal below the windscreen as well. The water wasn’t coming in my door seals but I replaced them both anyway with bearmach ones which I think only cost about £30 for the pair

As you've said yourself, I think it's much more likely that the leak is from the windscreen/bulkhead.

I don't think that worn/chafed door seal will be causing you much of a problem at all.

I had a leak reappear recently - really wet footwells - to cut a long story short, it turned out that the not-so-long installed windscreen (with a new genuine seal) wasn't sealed. After heavy rain, I could see where the water was coming in, through the seal, on both sides. It was visible in that little gap between the top of the dash, and the windscreen rubber.

Took it back to the windscreen place, they put some 'arbomast' into it, and it's been dry since. I would definitely try that first. Do also check/seal the windscreen blocks, and if you can be in the car when it's raining, you might get an idea where the water's coming from. It could even be the roof seams; running along the internal gutter; out at the front and pooling in the footwells.... It's all possible - but I'd check the windscreen first.

I think my leak reappearing was also caused by a bit of offroad use, with a rooftent on the car. I suspect that, as the body flexes, the original sealant wasn't flexible enough and let the water in. Just a thought, in case you were doing anything 'dramatic' with the car before the water got in? Donald

The damage in the photo is unlikely to lead to water ingress, and if it did would only appear in the rear footwell. Rear footwell puddles are more commonly the result of water running down inside the door and exiting inside the vehicle due to the rather unsatisfactory drainage arrangements within the door itself.

I’ve been chasing the same, it’s not the door seal, its condensation behind the carpets.

So got the front mat out and sure enough there’s a bit of rust at the seam at the front of the floor panel. Only one of the bolts fixing the panel down is affected by rust. Should I be starting to worry about my bulkhead? Short of taking the whole dash out how do you even check the bulkhead? Is there a knack to getting the mat out that runs around from the a-pillar to the centre dash?

Ps As part of trying to guard against possible further water leaks I had the hinge blocks off today and put on new gaskets with extra wee daud of sealant. The bracket bolts weren’t rusty so that has to be a good sign right?
