Don't get me wrong, I don't like the open border policy. I think a system like Australia has is a great idea and doesn't disadvantage exsisting countrymen. Ray

England
Freedom of movement gives freedom to people who want to go and live in another country.

It takes away the freedom of those who already live there, to have any say at all in who comes and lives in their country.

Whose freedom is most important?

You choose.

Personally I want to live in a free and open country that welcomes everyone, that recognises that everyone has something to offer, and where my freedoms are not restricted by nationalism. I believe diversity makes for a healthier society. Barriers, exclusions and yes I will say bigotry and racism because it seems to be on the rise everywhere at the moment, do not.

General Elections. Is it me, or does the TV News just get unwatchable in the lead up to a General Election?

Do the media and the media chasing politicians drive voters away?

There isn't really any news before an election, other than to assess each parties manifesto (see previous post - it will all be forgotten come the day after the election). But we get weeks of opinion (albeit a little less with this one) and none of this is fact, just some journalists opinion. And why should we believe what they think (See Daily Mail, Daily Express for details of how to make a big scare story out of nothing).

God help us, ITV pulled Loose Women the day the election was called so we may have wall to wall coverage of what can be summed up in five words "An Election has been called". I was gutted. At least Theresa managed to let This Morning and Jeremy Kyle through before dropping the bomb shell, so all was not lost with the days viewing.

The worst of the lot are the "I would have thought" brigade.
What the hell does that mean anyway?
What do they really think? Rolling Eyes

No, it's not just you, although I would suggest that the TV news is getting pretty unwatchable all the time - it seems to be morphing towards Daily Mail standards!

In my view the worst part about the BBC news in the run-up to an election is that it becomes dominated (to an even greater degree than usual) by the ghastly Laura Kuenssberg (whose face, I suspect, may have inspired the design of the back end of the new Discovery with its wierd offset number plate), a reporter who, in my opinion, has none of the qualities required for the job. Does the BBC no longer have any good political correspondents? Bring back John Cole!
