Don't know about the back seat, I thought the wife's front passenger seat is worse than anyone sitting in the back, I often wonder how I manage to drive 600 miles a week without her assistance! Cheers Simon

The idiot, aka the wife doesn't have a driving licence and yet insists on trying to find fault with my road craft, or even more irritating than that will point out things like hot air balloons or belted Galloway cows in a field just at the most inappropriate moments and yet then complains when I either ignore her or have to brake harder than I expected. It will be the death of something one of these days. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

^^^^ The above comments were what I mean pretty much.
Passengers do not seem to understand I can go around looking at the fields whilst driving etc....

Doesn't help like yesterday either when you have two cars if front an Artic behind and the idiot at the front keeps on slamming the bares on twice to let their bloody mates out if their driveways with next to no notice. Rolling Eyes

Not really grumpy but, why do people who don't exploit every little bit of the performance of their already fast car feel obliged to get it tuned to an almost suicidal degree? I could see the point if they've taken everything the car has to give and found it short when slaying the tyres on a racing circuit, otherwise what is the point? I suppose some people can't comfortably drive at 11 tenths of a cars capacity but ought not the driver be better than the car is that not safer than the other way around? Confused. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Spent ages on the phone with NFU Ripon office this afternoon (they called me fortunately !). Why is it that so called specialist insurers can be such a pain to deal with ?

It seems that if you use your Defender for anything it's not insured for (such as entering an off road trial, any form of motorsport etc...) they won't insure you on the road when you're not doing those activities. It seems the only way to get an insurance policy through NFU is not to be honest about my use of the vehicle ! Seriously WTF is that about > If you use the vehicle for motorsport for 1 day a year, knowing it's not covered, you invalidate your cover for the other 364 days ???

Anyway, more fun times to look forward to tomorrow no doubt when I approach some more brokers ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

I'll ask the obvious question....

Have you tried A-Plan, they are a site sponsor, I insure my modified defender with them for a good price.

I don't do Motorsport in mine but they may be able help. Cheers Simon

There is sometimes a sour taste with the NFU mainly to do with the interpretation of what is acceptable with the NFU. Some offices are so much easier to deal with than others, round here, any questions that you ask are taken seriously and the girls in the office will check and double check on how it affects you and any problems with your policy.
There was a long running saga of some people being told by their local branches that they weren't covered when greenlaning when we all know that if you're greenlaning responsibly that you are still on a Queens Highway so still a road. I spoke to my local office and they looked into it and clarified that you are still insured and that was direct from NFU Headquarters meaning that the other local offices were giving out the wrong advice.
It can be much like local brokers, some will help the customers whilst others are only interested on how many signatures they can get in their boxes at the bottom of the form Whistle

I'm not a fan of the insurance industry full stop, not just motor but across the board.
The whole thing is a con with people making money out of money that others have worked for.
All to line their own pockets via doing no work at all.

Pet insurance is another, along with vets also as the insurers encouraged and allowed them to up the fees.
(Beyond most people's affordability.)
Then the insurers will do their utmost to avoid paying out as well.

Only plus side is with that is that you don't legally require it.

All money for old rope.

I requested a callback from A-Plan and NFU, missed the call from A-Plan and got an email from them asking me to call them which I will do tomorrow. I've recently bought a VW T5 to convert into a camper van and A-Plan are also very active and get very good reviews on the VW forums so definitely on my list of people to talk to, might even be able to do some sort of multiplan with them as I also have my Range Rover insurance comping up for renewal next month.

The motorsport thing, I think, is down to interpretation as the woman I spoke to at NFU said she'd contacted the underwriters about it and they'd said no as it's not covered under Social, Domestic and Pleasure use. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Trains. How can they just be cancelled? Where do they go? How does the arrival time of the next one go out every few minutes? Thank the lord for M&S food at Oxford station and their cold lager. Now mine.

Tyre fitters are ...... well some, not all I know that, but the one I went to see today really p!ssed me off.

I rang earlier in the week to see if they would fit 4 new AT3 tyres for me as they have been good to friends in the past and they are down the road. I mentioned they were Defender tyres and they said they do a lot of them! Yeah right.

Anyhow - got there.
Took all 4 tyres out of the back.
110 had all 4 locking nuts off
Front jacked up and both wheels off
Then both tyres off
Then they tried to put on the 1st tyre and their weedy machine kept failing.
When they finally got a new tyre on their air compressor did not have enough oomph to seal a new tyre.
Much cussing later they managed to put the originals back on and said - sorry guv, cant do.
Nearly an hour this all took.
Boss almost admitted he lied to me.

So - I had a full schedule today so now booked into the place i bought my previous 90 tyres from for fitting next Saturday.

Grump grump grump Evil or Very Mad

Monday morning commute when all the kids are all back at school. The roads are jammed again Big Cry My eyes are still smarting from seeing a new Bentley 4x4 on the school run near Cheam. Left foot followed by right is unfashionable and the results are evident. I ran the bleep test for the u10s I coach at rugby and only 2 got over level 5. Level 6 is average, 7 good and 8 excellent. Several kids dropped out before level 2. You could pull yourself along by your eyebrows and get to level 2. There we have it, a multi faceted rant on a Monday morning...... Banging Head
