Grump time again !!!
If I or one of my colleagues are standing in the middle of the road in bright orange hi-vis trying to stop the traffic it is for a bloody good reason !!! We are not there for the fun of it. Me standing in the road I have stopped about 3 cars and a van no worries my other lads have stopped the same in the other directions as its a four way junction and one of them is reversing a 250tonnee mobile crane across the road, bright yellow flashing lights all over it 6 axles 20mtrs long 3mtrs wide not hard to miss. What happens next ?? Bloody female bmw pilot comes round the corner completely ignoring the orderly line of traffic overtakes the lot tries to run me over and then turns right directly into the path of the reversing crane. At the same time a cabby gets bored tries to do a u turn in one of the lines as a young Asian lad was overtaking that line of traffic smash whoops, How bloody impatient are these people, what is so important, leave 10mins earlier you never know what might happen !!! If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. Just read the news from last week......... 29yo grandad!!!!!
Same age as me- I have paid my taxes since I was 16 and never asked for anything back- He has never worked, his daughter has never worked and I bet they have claimed more in benefits in the the past 13 years than I have earned!!!!!
Reminds me of a flight I got across the US. A really fat couple were walking down the plane (I was in the back row) and just as they get to the seats they were sitting in (the row in front of me) the wife says to her husband "Donald, the seats on these planes get smaller every time we travel".... I thought 'It's not the seats that are getting smaller'...... only problem is that my inner dialogue wasn't working that day.... the girl next to me sniggered, and then I realised how loud I said it Glyn |

The other side of the coin is that I completely ignore people who try who try and stop me so that their mate can reverse out onto the road. Don't stop me, stop your mate until the road is clear. |

I guess you would drive through our road stops and then sue me when a tree falls on your car. Why do people think there journey should have no stops.
People won't wait while we are reversing our chippers or trailers. So jerseyman I'll gladly break your nose if you run through me when we are stopping the road. |

Quiet road, one car every 10 minutes. Why do you think you should have the right to reverse onto a public road rather than wait 15 seconds for me to pass? In that situation I WILL ignore your mate trying to flag me down, and no doubt being a rumpty-tumpty tree-logger you could break my nose. That will the be a conversation you would have with the police and my equally rumpty-tumpty lawyer. Grumpy old man thread or not threatening violence is not a nice thing. |

Just for interest:
Yes, you get compete numpites that reverse onto a main road because they can't be bothered to reverse into their drive the night before.... but this is against the highway code therefore it can be classified as dangerous/ careless driving and you can be taken to court over it (especially if they cause an accident because of it). Having driven some huge trucks on the main roads around the UK it is sometimes unavoidable to end up reversing, but again there are always a small percentage of people in the UK who seem to think because they didn't leave home 5-10 mins early, they feel their appointment wherever it may be is more important than the safety of workmen on the road, or as mentioned above, people stopping people from passing because there is a danger in the road ahead..... and they seem to be the people in small cars most of the time!! I once was in a 32ton truck with a 5 ton trailer and had a game of chicken with a tiny Fiat- he seemed to think it would be easier for me to reverse 50m than him about 75m so he could be on his way to get to a work meeting. So I just put my handbrake on and made myself comfy as he decided to spend 10 mins trying to squeeze by..... They also seem to think that we care if someone drives into one of our trucks!! He gave up and reversed out of the way in the end Better safe than sorry gents, so if someone in a orange/ yellow vest is asking you to stop, 9 times out of ten it is for a good reason. Glyn |

1 thing else whilst on this subject is that under the health and saftey at work act we are responsible to the general public by our acts or omissions, so if i just let that big crane manouver as it pleases and cause an accident, as i hired it in and was in charge tecnically it would be an omission for me not to control its movements.
Welcome to my world of risk assesments and method statements, big jobs we hand traffic management over to A plant they have a special division costly but one big headache off my plate.
