Does anyone have a suggestion of what bumper to get to house a winch and which winch to pair it with?
I am going to be going through uncleared logging roads covered in snow. I am looking for something subtle without the combination of lights is the bumper (although they do look smart!) 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." My combo: Terrafirma Pro Taper Winch Bumper with Superwinch Talon 9500i:
Click image to enlarge I had to adapt the Lamp Guards a little because of the bumper mounts higher than standard bumpers, but it gives more clearance this way. Does the bumper include the steering guard? 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." T-max 12000 lb winch, slim line custom bumper made from 3/16 HSS with OEM bumper end caps to give it that "Land Rover" Look. Mounted it above the frame to give me an excellent approach angle. I recommend at least 10000 lb winch for a 110 and at least a 8000 lb for a 90. I have used Warn, Superwinch and Husky over the years. I will now only use and recommend Husky and T-max. The others I mentioned are both over priced nad over rated. Food for thought... good luck in your search.

No, the steering guard is separate. Mantec bumper with Superwinch Husky, the King of Winches. HD steering guard with integral 2" receiver from Safari Equip.
Much like 4RF RDS above, my experience with Warn and Superwinch have lead me to the conclusion that the only ones worth bothering with are the old Warn 8274, a superb winch in its day, and the the Superwinch Husky. I have been seriously unimpressed with the epicyclic Warn winches (and personally don't like epicyclic winches anyway for several reasons). Click image to enlarge |
