Ah, fair enough. I didn't realise that the studs on the early ones are even shorter. Darren

There was somebody on here that had a set galvanised. Makes an already heavy wheel even heavier, though. Darren

It shouldn't be necessary to galv if the wheels have been properly painted, people have been painting wheels for years and if done well they don't rust.
In my view wheels are always going to be susceptible to chipping and similar damage, so any hard brittle, flaky type of coating is not ideal, hence personally I wouldn't favour galv, powder coat, stove enamelling, or any similar process. My personal preference is for a good paint system properly applied, at least they can be touched up as required then. Clip on balance weights are also a problem for the reasons above. The main weakness with the genuine HD rim as supplied is that it really hasn't been painted at all, just a quick blow over with AOS so that it can leave the factory and look vaguely respectable until the customer is off the premises. The paint lasts much better (but still not well) on the ex-military rims. |

I think they are white underneath! Desperately in need of a refurb, I’m not sure if I want to keep them white though...

Just a point of view, but one I’ve arrived at over the past 3-4 years old living with Wolf HD wheels.
I’ve decided that I really like the look of Wolfs, but have chosen not to live with them. I feel that they make the live axle ride-quality worse by adding around 7kg per corner of additional unsprung weight. Even with brand new suspension, bushes and dampers they thump around potholes in the road, but they look great. I’m uncomfortable with the solution Land Rover came up with to overcome the thickness of the wheel centre which means the nut doesn't fully pull onto the stud: “tighten it up more” ! Even through they don’t fit quite right, they still look great. I’ve now fitted lighter wheels, which I feel have appreciably improved the ride and steering. I was going to colour code them to the paintwork, and they would have looked fantastic. But I can’t live with them. I will continue to refer back to this thread to get my ongoing Wolf HD wheel fix. ![]() @Lodelaner Instagram Youtube greenlaning and other LR related content |

How much extra weight would galvanising add to a rim? I read somewhere that it's quite common place in Denmark and Canada?
I was just hoping to have another element of the LR effectively "maintenance free". |
