Fitting boomslang loom - earth problem
I'm in the process of upgrading the loom on my fy16 defender (I knew the standard lights were awful - not realised the lights were 'floating' until yesterday when I took them off as they each only had 1 rather than 3 retaining clips holding them on - dealer refused to post me some under warranty as they'd have to see it - have ordered some elsewhere instead).

Anyway, have got the near side light working fine with boomslang (still std lights for now - fitting crystals and better bulbs once I've got it working). However, Censored if I can find an earth for the offside one for the length of cable supplied. Before I run another wire to eg earth on the alternator, how has anyone else solved it? Job continues in a couple of days when I get the retaining clips delivered....

I extended the RH earth across to the LH one, then ran a cable right back to the main battery earth on the chassis. I don't see the point in running the positive to the battery if the earths are then rubbish.

Get some harness tape or flexi conduit and you can run the earth lead along side the battery positive.

Probably different than the Boomslang, but with the Landreiziger loom you only need to connect the plus to the permanent live at the alternator and then take a single good earth connection. In below picture it shows my easy earth taken at the top of the engine compartment where there is a bolt in place already and in a location which won't see moisture. No point at all to connect all the way to the battery.

You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Keep an eye on the fuseholder, mine melted. Hopefully they may have used a better quality one now.

Thanks for the input - great pic Eric, I've earthed both lights to that point. Sorted.

Now to decide if I like the clear led lights ive just fitted on the back vs to the coloured originals they replaced.....decisions decisions
