Vacuum Pump oil leak Puma 2.4
Bit of guidance please, my Puma 2.4 an early model is seemingly showing signs of oil forming around the Wabco vacuum pump. I only noticed today , but judging by the dirt, it has been doing it a little while.

It's not making a massive mess, but findings its way (presumably via the belt/fan) a little onto the adjacent rubber hose.

Now after a bit of googling I suspect it is the vacuum pump, however just wondered:

1) If it is the vacuum pump leaking, does it begin to get progressively worse before leading to failure ? If it does fail, what happens?

2) Is there anything around that sort of area that it could be other than the vacuum pump? (oil is trickling via the pump)

I couldn't get through to my local independent, but essentially they usually have long wait time before booking in (not mechanically able myself to replace unfortunately) . As such, is it likely to develop to full blown oil leak / lose all of the oil?

Just wondering if I can keep driving for now, I have a trip over the weekend and would be great to use my Defender.

I’ve had 2 gaskets go and 1 pump fail. When the pump failed oil was around the pump spindle, with gaskets the oil was below the pump and gasket 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

The gaskets leak if you overtighten the securing bolts. For once it is worth (a) using a genuine Ford gasket, and (b) using a teeny-weeny torque wrench.

I had oil film regularly around the inlet manifold, hp fuel pump etc. And it turned out to be the vacuum pump. As the viscous fan for the rad has quite a bit of power is spreads the leak into a fine mist on surrounding parts and pipes making it awkward to spot the cause. The gasket is a significant almost sandwich plate with rubber seal inset. Definitely worth paying up a bit for a decent one. 2010 2.4 TDCI Puma Defender 90

Thanks all, this should be getting sorted in the next few weeks. Car has been idle, as I've been away. I did take it out today and it seems to create the same level of 'mess' and not gotten worse.

Having said that, I was moving the car out today, after it sitting for quite a few weeks I'd taken it for a run and halfway through a motorway run it has flicked on the engine management light.

Car runs fine (pulls well and without the light, you'd not know anything was up) , but wondering if that vac pump could cause the dash light to come on / stay on?
