Mine does it occasionally when starting from a cold overnight stop.
Had a new gearbox a while back. Made no difference. |

It's common to Disco 2 and Defender.
We normally fit genuine LR clutch kits, and they do this from new. It's embarrasing when we reverse the car out of the workshop to hand it back to the customer. Only happens in reverse of course, as that's the only time you'll ride the clutch. |

Thanks for starting this thread. I have this exact same symptom when cold, with it going away after a while. Good to know it's a case of "a Landy thing".

Flywheel spigot bush. Nothing to worry about unless it gets really bad. They all do it

We fit these as a matter of course when doing a clutch kit. Makes no difference. Yes, it will groan in 1st gear too, but you don't normally tend to ride the clutch in 1st like you would in reverse. |

Spigot bush.
We soak the new ones in oil, leaving a batch of them in oil until they are used, the bronze soaks the oil in & then when fitted, they don't 'groan' Have fitted many like this, & none have made a noise since Regards Steve |
