Put the full SS system including tube headers on my V8 90 and the difference it made was amazing - it would pull a gear higher in most situations. I put it down to the restrictive original manifolds mostly.

A set of headers to start with, and then a free flowing big bore exhaust, if you're going the single pipe way, 2.5" should do the trick.
HOWEVER, and from the land of V8s, I don't see many of you guys doing this, the "classic" V8 exhaust is twin pipes, coming out either side of the rear of the vehicle. Pickles. |

Has anyone here who has fitted tubular headers also installed heat wrap on them?
I've just fitted some (Rimmer Bros) and am worrying about heat. Thanks David |

I've got stainless tubular on mine and don't get any problem with heat , just beneath of where your starter motor cable runs that's all

My 110 with Gems V8 has a 50th Anniversary y section with CATS, then a 300tdi Centre silencer Removal pipe and 300tdi 110 rear section. So only silencer is on the tailpipe.

Sorry but I really need to weigh in here.
Most of the tubular manifolds available off the shelf for the RV8 are absolutely terrible. Mainly because most were actually designed for sports cars that want most of the power gain at higher rpm. Hence the 4 into 1 design. The only ones worth considering are specifically designed manifolds that put the power where you want it on a defender i.e. Low to mid range rpm. This requires manifolds that are 4 into 2 into 1. In reality the cast twin-port disco v8 manifolds are very good indeed. 4.6 RV8 110HT |

John Eales has the ported cast manifolds back in stock according to my knowledge but I guess pricewise they are not justifiable on a non race engine... What ever manifolds you get have them ceramic coated instead of wrapped. Wrapping can burn if you got a heavy oil spill. m

For what it is worth I had a double s system on mine and it was an absolute pile of junk. It is not intended for the 110 but for a range rover. Thus there is an additional section of pipe between the Y pipe and centre box which was continually working loose, the tubular manifolds were a dreadful fit on the heads, a poor fit on the Y pipe and the welds on one of them cracked. The tail pipe came out right where the rear mud flap is fitted and they weren't even remotely interested in doing anything to remedy the situation.
Currently I am running Range Rover cast manifolds, Range Rover 2-1 pipes, a Range Rover Y pipe, 300 Tdi middle box and a plain tail pipe without the resonator. Sounds nice without being gobshyte loud |
