Clunking noise when changing gear on a Puma?
Hi all,

I recently purchased a 110 62 plate and when I change gear from 2nd to 3rd onwards when I release the clutch there is a loud clunking noise? It doesn't happen when I change from 1st to 2nd.

Do you think it could the UJ's?

Any help appreciated appreciated.

Thanks.

Rear axle top suspension link ball joint

Good luck!

Hello, some of the people her explain to me the gear change clunk. It is slack somewhere. For me I change the A ball joint and fulcrum and after is gone.

If the UJ's are bad you can just get under the car and twist them with your hand, if they have excessive play you'll feel it. Grease the UJ's if it stops the clanking (probably temporarily) then it's probably UJ's

However it could be a failing clutch plate, adaptor shaft wear (between the gearbox and transfer box), drive flange wear or a combination of all of them.

All the above, or gearbox ... or transfer box ... or diff ... or any combinatio of the above.

In fact, wear and slop just about anywhere in the drive line will give rise to this symptom.

As a first step, check fort the Puma clutch death rattle (many threads on here tell how).
