Thanks to your post I've just discovered that mine has the Gwyn Lewis rear flaps - I thought they were nice but hadn't realised that they weren't standard. Very quick & easy to remove/reattach. The rusty bolts got the stainless treatment at the weekend

Also worth remembering is that the £100 you mention not only gets you the replacement mud flap brackets but also the mud shield that stops getting flung onto the rear cross member.
When mine (completely standard and bent) give up completely they will be replaced with the Gwyn Lewis version (fronts included). 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Definitely worth it. The standard mudflaps are pretty pointless, most of the mud just gets thrown through the huge gap above the mud flap bracket, they also always break off on the body and cause corrosion to the rear quarter.
The Gwyn Lewis ones are pretty much fit and forget, they'll out last the car. As has been pointed out you also get the plastic mud shields to fill the gap above the mudflap. Add to that the fact it's all galvanised 3mm steel, you get a renforcement strip for the bottom of the quarter panel that runs all the way from the back wheel to the cross member and a far superior rear quarter stay which wont rot out or tear out of the body either. I've also put the mud shields at the front end of the rear wheel arches too to stop the muck getting to the seat belt mountings, this also prevents anticorrosion products behind it from being washed off. As well as the front brakets and mud shields which stop the mud being thrown up the door and all over the chassis out rigger. |
