2 month ago I put terrafima 30mm spacers and adore the change for the steering. Perhaps some wobble but not i notice.
Last week i put the alive lower springs and the wobble arrive at speed like you. I change the sterring damper and all gone and big improve of steering feel. I know now the original was bad. Really good change for me. 80€ for the Bilstein version and also just 10 minutes to pose onto defender. easy job, more easy than even to change a wheel. Click image to enlarge [/img] |

^ Just been reading up on what they do
Then I found this one as I have heard of this make? https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID400009 he said if I get one (after asking the forum advice also) he will fit it free when the car goes for a service... as a side I had a great chat with him, he has a Classic RR but also a few other cars, one he was in today was a 450 bhp Focus RS absolutely mint |

In my opinion the steering damper cannot be the source of wheel wobble. The damper just masks issues.
What make are your spacers? What is the behaviour of the wobble? Does it appear gradually and build with speed or does it appear around a certain speed and drop off as you increase further? Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Hello
I think they are bulldog ? (bought off a forum member on here) around 39mph the wobble starts and around 44 / 45 gets very wobbly then faster than that goes away up to around 58mph then wobble... The fronts are off now so it drives normally.... not sure what to do then? |

Could one of these spacers be misshaped and cause the wobble effect like a misbalance of wheel so it only is feeling at the particular rotation rate?
For other things it would it be sure that the wobble would exist at all the speeds but just getting faster with vehicle? |

Try the rear spacers on the front and see if you still have a wobble. Ray

Have you checked the panhard rod bushes? Any play and I mean any play in that should be fixed. I had a similar issue where I changed the radius arm bushes from completely shot to brand new and I got the death wobble bad when I hit pot holes. Thought it must have been related to the bushes since that's what I changed but they'd just helped highlight the underlying issue. Ed

I don't know what this 'death wobble is' is that something else? than my wobble? as without the front spacers the car drives 100% nothing wobbles
So I have these options:- Warped Spacer? (unlikely from seller as he had them on and no issues?) Front Damper Swivel Balls? Panhard rod bushes...? I will be honest the only thing I vaguely know what they are is the damper and swivel? How can I be certain what needs changing rather than do that lot (no idea on costs) just to fit front spacers? The 'death' wobble is the front axle shaking violently - normally when you hit a pot hole or bump.
The panhard rod is the bar that comes down from the drivers side chassis leg and goes diagonally to the passenger side of the axle. If there's any play in this then the chassis + body is in effect not securely aligned to the axle. If you hit a bump then you can set up a resonance in the system and the axle (in bad scenarios) appears to shake from side to side (or the chassis / body shakes depending on your viewpoint). Get a crow bar and wiggle the rod along its length and if there's some play there then I'd try and eliminate that first. You can get a full replacement bar or simply replace the bushes. I had a replacement bar with polybushes and it lasted a few months, I then got the old bar and replaced the bushes with genuine and it's fixed the issue. Note - when I had knackered radius arm bushes I'd just get a bit of wobble which you'd have to ease off to settle stop, when I replaced those I basically had to come to a stop and the entire vehicle was shaking side to side (unpleasant at 60mph ). Can you describe the wobble? Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

Spacers overload the hubs and are only for massaging self-esteem.

Hello
With the spacers on the font all is fine up to 39 mph.. Then I feel the steering wheel judder left to right slightly and around 44mph it seems to be at it's worse. (It feels like a the wheels have lost weights). Then you drive through it and 45 / 46 mph it's ok up to around 59 mph then it does it again... I've not gone faster with them on and now they are off. What I don't understand is if the car drives 100% with the fronts off, why anything would need replacing as no wobbles, or anything? I appreciated these may exaggerate an issue as 30mm wider but would I not feel any movement already? Thanks |

Lightningtweeds, Many thanks for the helpful comments,
You're right they probably do, but let's be honest I'm hardly the first person to use them I do prefer the look and far cheaper than me changing the wheels to a zero offset. I just want to make them work that's all, so if it means changing some other bits so be it |

I considered massaging my self-esteem a few years ago until i done a search on Youtube. Spacers shearing off and literally breaking up between the rim.
I didn't fancy the insurance form. |

Thanks for that,
Spacers, Alloys, towbar, Led lights, leather bits, all down as modifications on my insurance certificate thank you. As for issues, Some Porsche cars have them fitted as standard. Thank You ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back to my issue.... Can anyone suggest what out of the suggestions given is likely to be the cause? |
