Front driveshaft flange refitting issues.

Having had the front left hand brake disc on my 99 300tdi 110 off to clean, check and paint I now can't seem to refit the circlip on the drive shaft once the flange has been bolted in place. I'm reusing the orginal disc, bearings, hub and driveshaft flange but I can't seem to expose enough of the drive shaft to put the circlip in place.
All the bearings/ seals etc are seated correctly and have been rechecked. I had no issue with the 3 other wheels so I'm wondering what I've missed out. Thanks in advance. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

It may help to get the circlip on before bolting up the drive flange. Then you have play to move the flange to wiggle it about to expose enough for the circlip

You've put a bolt in the end and tugged the CV out as far as it goes? (The copper thrust bearing should be the limiting factor)

Steering is straight? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

grafty99 - will give this way a go as soon as I can get back to it
agentmulder- tried with the bolt as previously done with the opposite side, steering straight too.
Will spend a bit more time it over the nex day or so and see if I can see any other reasons. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Had the same issue over the weekend.
Drive flange bolt in the drive shaft with a bit of wiggling and rocking the hub forwards and backwards sorted it.

Gearbox in neutral with hand brake off to get rid of any pre load.

Hadn't thought of the handbrake being on - which it currently is. Will giver another go tomorrow. Thanks for the info

Now sorted, had the handbrake on which wouldn't have help. Also got a new flanges the orginal one was worn, so the combination of both plus pulling on the bolt gave me enough room to get the circlip on. Now onto the next job. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
