Fitting galvanised chassis cost
Ridiculous question.....but if I wanted a galvanised chassis fitted on my 2.4 2008 tdci, does anyone do it, and what would be an approximate cost......not just for the chassis, but for the rebuild

Just curious......

Do it yourself and get to understand your motor. Rebuilt 2 landrovers from chassis up and think nothing of getting stuck in with a spanner.

A bit like how long is a piece of string as cost vary.
If you do go for it buy a Marsland Chasis, not a Richards both are good but Marsland is just that bit better.

As for fitting, it depends on that garage, you will have to have the engine and gearbox fitted all the axles and running gear, fuel tank and pipes and all the sensors and electronics. The body is not that complicated as believe it or not the body can be taken off the chassis with not that much work.

But then all the brake pipes and bushes affixed to all the suspension such as dampers springs etc. The labour charges mount up so it impossible to calculate the cost. but I think you would be looking at least five and a half grand including chassis to complete, possibly more, especially if the fitting bolts nuts etc are difficult to remove and remember that the chassis loom will have to be threaded through the rails and connected

However once done your Defender will be a keeper without the worry of rust for many years to come. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I would have loved to have tried it myself, I stripped my first car (a vauxhall Viva 1800) down and replaced the pistons etc when I was 22 ish, I am now 57, I dont have a garage, and i work, so I think I would find it very difficult.........

5K is not bad if that includes the chassis, can it really be that cheap with garage labout costs?

Don't forget the hidden costs, new bushes? Makes sense whilst it's apart, new brake flexis? The odd bits here and there, a.c. regas etc. Cheers

Yes!, but it all depends on labour hours and how specialised the garage is on re-chasing. I would recommend an independent garage who knows what they are doing and have done many a chassis swap so the mechanics understand any complications that might occur. It is not that difficult to swap a body and all sundries if the garage has done this type of work before. As I said 5K might escalate if there are problems but 5k to 6k should be a guide any more you should ask why? For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Contact Marsie by pm, he'll quote you, he works next to Richards chassis and he'll get you sorted.

An experienced workshop can do it in about 100 Hrs.

Or at least that was on my bill Rolling Eyes a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Had my Td5 done in scotland with tayside landrovers for well under £3k. Including a fair bit of other work.
A brilliant job and nice people to deal with.

They do seem pretty active in the world of LR restorations right now. Lots of eBay galv bulkheads and stuff for sale too. Anyone used them? 1951 80" S1 2.0
