i believe this is just the crankcase breather oil/mist that has condensed in the inter-cooler as the air flow would pretty much stop things going in the other direction, well worth cleaning it all out, and a good advert for a breather oil separator like the Mann Hummell ones, some horror stories on various forums re this on other cars DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Ah ok, condensed, that makes sense. So because the air charge is heated, it's able to keep oil mist vaporized and in suspension, then once the air charge is cooled through the intercooler, then it falls out and gathers on the discharge, that's a relief, thank you. Now I'm extra happy to befitting the oil catch can on the breather. I looked at the Provent, but decided to go for this unit based on I wasn't keen on changing the filters. http://www.42draftdesigns.com/stealth-oil-catch-can/
