Having lived with the TDCi for a month now I can honestly say that Land Rover have succeeded in civilising the beast without emasculating it.

Absolutely agree!
New Defender is more comfortable and driveable than previous models, but without lost the character and the capacities of the old Defenders. despite the faults, we love it Cheers! Well I must say that driving the 110 in soft sand in Morocco last week myself and a lot of others were very very impressed with its ability, and I must add it was a joy to drive too and from Morocco.

Well after many trials and tribulations relating to unwelcome transmission noises beggining with a grinding kerplunk - really did sound like a load of dropped marbles every time i touched the clutch. and culminating in a rejected vehicle.
I have to say that although having only been able to use it for 1 week out of 4 weeks ownership (my problem not landys) i am impressed overall with it ok the usual LR trim niggles, a slight clunk if you lift the clutch quick - but i get the idea from various places thats normal- it certainly was on all previous LRs i owned. I almost feel the 9 months i waited for a servicable 110 were worth it. The handling and drive ive found to be terriffic the engine seems to pull through anything and it works well offroad (managed to get a day in at Bala) All those friends who have had a quick play - including 1 who hates landrovers out of principle say they are impressed. I still own my 300 tdi 90 but i think its now relegated to toy and odd job status daily driver despite its extra bulk has gotta be the TDCI If it aint broke its just waiting. |

Just joined the forum - have replaced my TD5 110xs with a Tdci - what a difference. I loved my old TD5 up to 50 mph, but this one cruises on the motorway with ease, No SERIOUS problems yet, getting the same slight transmission clunk as some of you, but performed really well on a 1000 mile trip to the Lake District at the end of Nov.
And no complaints from my passengers, which is more than could be said for the TD5 1953 80 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |

Just spent a day in the soft beach sand dunes out here for the first time with mine.
What a ride and so much power - we whent where the TD5 never made it, TC also helped a stack. Absolutely loved it. I had the driver of a Hyundai Tuscon AWD in mine just to show him the ropes before he whent out in his and he loved the huge Landy bonnet and bullbar pointing you in the right direction. His Hyundai Auto handled like a dream I must say but clearance was a problem and I saw a lot of plastic bits taking a beating on the high aproach angles of the dunes. I keep reading the very sad stories of people who are having problems, I have to say that mine is (touch wood) performing well with no major problems. OK, so the dealer replaced the EGR valve and the top the lines of the heated rear window de-mister have failed, but, apart from that, the the vehicle is tight, brisk and compared to all my other Defenders, reasonably well made. Mine does not leak, I can have a conversation at 70, does 27 - 30 mpg, no particular rattles or squeaks and looks stunning.
I do have a confession to make. I did buy a Cherokee, yes, sorry, but I did. It was, in 25 years of motoring, the worst piece of donkey poo I have ever owned. The first one was thrown back at Jeep, but the second was even worse. Endless, endless problems, absolute , worse than anything that I have read here about defenders. American dream? American nightmare! And I told the Jeep MD....he said, and I quote, "sorry but you might be right".....! I have come back and stuck to Defenders ever since and the 2.4 is the best so far. I love it. Honest. Regards Chay. |

I totally agree. The only problem I've had is an air-con compressor (replaced under warranty), otherwise its been flawless (no leaks, no rattles) - the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned - driving it puts a smile on my face.

The most amazing thing was what the Customer Service chap at Jeep UK Head Office said in responce to my barely concealed anger about the considerable numbers of breakdowns, and I quote: "You have brought 25 year old technology and American build quality, what do you expect?"
Unbelievable! Chay |
