Please tell me if I'm posting any info I shouldn't. I've thought about it and I'm pretty sure this is fine.
I've recently purchased and programmed a new key fob using the one shot programmer. I knew it was easy but it's quite shocking really, and it's got me thinking about OBD security. I've considered a few options but I've stumbled upon quite a simple and effective method. The ecu can only have 4 fobs programmed to it, so in theory if you "occupy" those 4 with genuine keys of your own, no one can easily program another, thus removing the risk while keeping the OBD socket fully functioning and in its factory loctation. What do you guys think, reasonable in theory? My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html |

Hello meeerrrk
I'd say we're safe so far... Interesting observation...I've secured access to my OBDII, but your thinking may well be right. The 10AS Alarm Information does appear to 'limit' the total number of Key Fobs to 4 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Can't be that simple, can it... It would stop people using the one shot programmers. However if they had a little more time and were correctly tooled then physical obd security would be better. And probably more cost effective than getting more fobs 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks ZSD, that isn't how I had understood it I must admit, but I know next to nothing about these systems so I will assume you know more than me.
I think I'll still make some OBD security , I like your idea of a non standard plug and patch loom, nice My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html |

I don't think a connector would even have to be 16 pin, as i don't think all 16 pins are fully populated.

That's correct only about 4 or 5 from Memory. It certainly isn't fully populated anyway. My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html
