Strongest Land Rover Transmission/Driveline
I've been looking at options for upgrading my 90's (1986) bone-stock driveline.

Will be fitting a 1.2 ratio Disco transfer box and X-eng handbrake to begin with.

Have just picked up some 24 spline half shafts (eventually upgrading from 10 spline) and looking at diff options and the Ashcroft ATB stands out.

Still have the original LT77 and have seen a lot of R380's on ebay.

Not looking at going for serious offroad stuff, just dicking around and want to not have to worry so much about breaking things. This is us:

It's only a tdi but having just removed the transfer box off a generic Discovery and seen how worn the mainshaft and input gear were, it's got me thinking.

Cheers chaps Thumbs Up

The earlier LT230 Boxes did not have cross drilled gears and the main shaft on the gearbox suffered because of this, later ones have the cross drilled gears and are no where near as harsh on the gearbox splines. So worrying about that may be wasted effort, the input gears for the LT230 are easily changed for the newer type. 80" 1948

Thanks Pilgrimmick, I've got a new cross-drilled input gear from Ashcrofts after inspecting the Disco transfer box.

Have emailed Syncro as well about sponsorship Wink

So far I'm looking at:

-Upgrading 1.6 transfer box to 1.2 from Disco with Ashcroft cross-drilled input gear and new bearings
-Upgrading LT77 to R380 (will fit a Truckfix paddle clutch at the same time)
-Ashcroft ATB rear diff
-LR V8 24 spline halfshafts/drive flanges
