Puma rear crossmembers have threaded inserts fitted (ISO M12 Coarse Series thread (ie standard M12) if I remember correctly) and there is generally no room for nuts, spreader plates, etc in front of the crossmember due to the fuel tank.
If you are fitting a NATO 76mm pintle to the crossmember it is essential for safety to fit a plate between the crossmember and the pintle. This is perhaps unintuitive but is because the NATO pintle and lunette coupling can under certain circumstances cause massive bending loads on the pintle's mounting which will destroy the crossmember (it was not so much of a problem on earlier vehicles where the pintle bolted through, rather than to, the crossmember but could still happen). For a recovery ring you probably won't need to worry about the plate since it is not possible to cause bending forces anything like as great. Last edited by blackwolf on 15th Feb 2017 10:16pm. Maybe just go down the route of the standard 3.5ton jaw from Dixon bate.
http://dixon-bate.co.uk/products/gb/jaws/1...coup-.html It'll bolt straight on and do for just a recovery point, that is simple yet effective. |
