Turbo hose, check yours.
This is something IIRC Blackwolf on here suggested a while ago regarding 2.4 Pumas. Possibly the 2.2's as well?
(Anyone confirm?)

It's called the Turbo charge air cooler hose, circlip torque 3NM. (Not easy to get a Torque wrench in there though)

The hose tends to rub on the steering column just below and could cause failiure.
I've kept an eye on mine for a long time and there was just a coulple of mm clearance, fir this reason it wasn't an ultra urgent job.
However, yesterday I loostened the circlip and slipped the hose back up by around 3mm.
It seems to have slipped down a bit, causing it to be even closer to the steering colum.
Now, it's retightened and in correct positioning there is a better clearance.

I can see why it's perfectly possible that it could rub right through and cause failiure or even come off all together.

I'd take a look at yours. Thumbs Up

This I should how it should be. (Centre pic)
Below that you can see the close proximity of the steering colum to the lower edge of the hose, it's still close but acceptable.

Had the same problem, picked up on mot on my 110 Puma. New hose fitted, and there was some reinforcement to clear the column. As you say, well worth looking at. One wife - livid

My two pressurized turbo/intercooler hoses were very well installed in Germany, they don't rub at all. And, I have opted for real German quality. Whistle

The recall was indeed for the 2.2. They have a turbo to intercooler hose which easily pops loose and could be cut by rubbing. The fix was essentially to install the very same rubber hose but reinforced by a metal spiral running around the hose.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

The 2.2 recall also had a metal bracket to hold the hose in place.

No, the 2.4 never had a recall because, provided that the turbo-to-intercooler pipe is fitted correctly, there is no problem. It is sloppy installation which allows it to rub on other things.

Eric and I bought a couple of sets from entreq at the same time, yes they are expensive, but they are beautiful and practical.

Could anyone please supply the recall number for the 2.2 and details?
Thanks in advance Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
