TD5 Wiper motor removal
Can someone explain what I need to do to disconnect the wiper motor from the rod that goes into it? I looked at the nut, and assumed it was undo nut and pull off...but it seems not, or at least, I haven't managed it yet. Is there more to it?

You need to remove the motor from its' mount and then remove a plate from the rear that secures the end of the drive tube.

This is a tdi motor but the principal is the same:

Or, if you remove the wiper arms themselves, you can pull the inner cable right out of the "tube" that runs between the wiperboxes (remove the wiper arms because the shafts will spin around a lot when you pull said cable out)

Be careful though, it's a long greasy messy thing... use rubber gloves and maybe another pair of hands to grab the end. good time to re-grease it when you reassemble it.

Thanks guys. I didn't realise the white switch on top of it can cause the entire thing to stop working... given the motor was just still getting hot, I have a feeling I might get away with just that park switch. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top
