Am overhauling an FPR and noticed that even though the engine has a 10p serial number it's the 3-outlet type FPR attached, can anyone think why this Landy would have the later FPR fitted to a 10p engine? It's a 1999 vehicle from SVO. They didn't make the Euro3 version that early surely, so does it suggest part of the engine has been replaced with a later bit? (and how much would have to have been replaced)

Thanks Dorsetsmith, that's what I figured. So what components would they have had to swap out to do that? And could it have been bodged enough to "sort of" do the job, more importantly. Would like to be sure it hadn't been messed up, if there's something that can be checked! Presumably the green top injectors would be needed, but if they'd not replaced the black tops would it still run?

http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.p...jector-td5 blue top injector 1500 psi up to my A2 1998 to 2002 green top injector 1750 psi from A2 Euro 3 2002 to 2006 The 15p heads run a different injector cam profile to generate higher injector pressures so the early black top injectors don't have the plunger travel nor the injector body strength. They will physically fit but I don't recommend it. I have fitted later injectors to 10p heads with no issues as they are running well below their designed parameters. Thanks Dover, I've read that too, not actually opened the head to see which injectors are in there yet (didn't realise there might be a need to until now!)... raises a few questions though:
1) CAN a 15p head be fitted with 10p injectors? What would be the symptoms if they were? 2) Also haven't checked which ECU type it is, can the earlier ones be reprogrammed for 15p injectors? Seem to recall that it can't be done... And if not, and the later 15p injectors ARE in there, what would that feel like? There aren't any errors coming up on the Lynx reader that might make it obvious... 3) If you fit a 15p head with the newer injectors, what else do you need to fit to get it to work like it should? And if the previous numpty hadn't done that, what would happen?

The only other things I can think of is camshaft profile as part number LGC000320 to 1A and LGC000310 from 1A and ECU mapping
also https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/upg...5p.273293/ You can not fit the 10p cam to a later 15p head as the cam carriers are deliberately different so they can not be mixed. Same with the injector rocker shaft. You also can not fit the 10p cam carrier to the 15p head as the cam bearings in the head and carrier are machined together so the head and carrier are matched parts. It is for this reason refurbished heads come with the carrier and often the cam. Thats the drawback with modern high tolerance engines - parts are not simply interchangeable. I think green top injectors need individually coding to the ecu where as black tops don't? I'm sure I read that somewhere. I think they're physically the same shape though

In regards to green top and black/blue top injectors, they are different in more ways than 1. first- they do run higher pressure, second- they are actually at a different angle (hence the newer design head) third- they are slightly longer than black tops. With this in mind they should not be swapped and cannot be programmed to the ecu. I have seen one particular case where black tops were fitted to green top engine and performance was reduced 60% started and ran but no good. If your 10p engine has green tops i'd say the head, injectors, the throttle pedal must have been swapped as this can be done at an expence. This information is from another forum but have read your early posts on low power
and that your head is now 15P instead 10p and you and have blue top injector fitted to it |
