Air con questions
Hi

We had a rather hot day yesterday and I found that the aircon didn't operate as cold as usual.

I checked the temp the following day. With a temp reading inside the top intake at approx 34C. (If that is where the aircon gets it's air from)
And the temp coming out of the vents was 21C. It dropped to about 18C when I bridged the yellow connector for the fan.
Interesting the temp is 3C higher at max interior fan speed than at the middle setting.

According to the manual it seems OK, but it was better.

During my tests the compressor's clutch stayed engaged, it ran full blast the whole time.

I have little experiance on automotive aircon systems but on a similar system on a aircraft the low pressure side pipe usually is ice cold. Mine wasn't.

Before I go and charge the system, I would like to ask a few questions:

1. Does the fan in front of the condenser stay on or does it start at a predetermined temp? Mine stayed off until I bridged the yellow switch connector.
2. Switch PRC 3505 (Yellow) gives me a infinity reading. Is this correct?
3. Switch PRC 3359 (Green) gives me a very low Ohm reading. Is this correct?
4. I have a TD5 dash. The passenger side vents has amazing airflow, but the drivers side its poor. Is there some way to equilize the airflow? (I assume this happens because of differance in pipe lenght)

Any help will be appreciated.

There should be two thermostatic switches on the thermostat top housing (200Tdi) or 180 elbow (300Tdi). One activates the electric boost fans if the engine temperature can't be controlled by the viscous fan alone, and the other will cut the aircon compressor out if the engine temperature rises further. The electric fans should not run continuously or respond to ac temperature, just engine coolant high temperature.

It sounds like your system is low on refrigerant gas and recharging is likely to fix it, but I would also closely inspect the condenser to make sure its airways aren't blocked.

Thanks for the reply.
I had to learn the system to understand it and came to the same conclusion.
You are right, she only needed some gas.
