Rust
Each one of the rear doors has the dreaded rot around 2 inches down from the lock mechanism on the underside of the shut. I suspect this is quite a common location and has probably happened from water ingress from the window seals (they do look poorly fitted)

The nearside is just starting to bubble through the paint, whereas the off side is a hole about the size of a 5p piece. Question is, do you strip and repair or is it better to replace (or a combo of the two given the different states)? Thankfully, this looks to be the only serious rot on the truck.

Depends if you are going to keep it along time and are worried about the appearance. You won't be able to stop the rot but a quick tart up job may last a bit or if you are going to keep it a long time, new doors and a respray etc but ouch! It will cost and where do you stop.

If it hasn't yet become a structural problem, why not just blast the inside of the frame (thro' the holes) with Waxoyl?
Should stop it getting any worse.

Not structural as far as I can tell, it is high up on the slope of the shut, not pooling at the seat of the door, the location lines up right underneath poorly seated window seals......quite an odd spot when you think about it....

TC, if your vehicle is under 6 years old it's still under the LR corrosion warranty. Get on the phone to the stealer and get stroppy. It'll be covered.

Thumbs Up

It's an 03 so no chance on that front.....given that the rust isn't visible on the outside I think I will have a go at restoration. If I replace the doors I will then have the headache of trying to colour match 8 year old paint!
