Try ignore how much smoother, stronger pulling and nicely sounding the td5 is.
Other than that in the Puma, feel for clunky gear changes, transmission slack and look for the lack of vents. Td5 forever |

I'm driving a very sweet td5 90 at the moment, but its just too small, and most of the td5 110s over here are high mileage and in rag order. |

The Puma does have it's advantages obviously. But other than clunky trans, I think there's not much more to look for, other than the usual stuff and checks to see if it has been looked after, which I'm sure you know anyway.
