Mass air flow meter? Its on to of the air box.
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor: This sensor measures the amount of air coming into the engine. Less air is drawn into the engine when it's idling, so less fuel is needed. More air is drawn into the engine once the car's in motion, so more fuel is needed from the injectors. The sensor is a small unit with two exposed wires; the wires heat up when the car is running, and the MAF measures the airflow by detecting how quickly the flow of air cools the temperature of the wires Read more: Mass Airflow Sensor Failure Symptoms | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/about_5382536_mass-air...z0yDTlJfIW 130's have feeling's as well you know |

This is a fault i think i may have heard of before - althought the alleged solution was to clean the mud that had been trapped in the radiator...clearly if yours is new this isnt the case. However, it always seemed an odd issue for me (to blame mud on stopping a defender) Mike |

Thanks Guys
I found a thread on another forum with google. Landy Man has posted the exactly same problem I have. http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=23178 Thankfully towards the end of the thread which goes off course a bit he posted his solution "About the original power loss problem: LR did an ECU update on the truck, which seems to have resolved the issue " Which ties in with what you say Rob. I'm going to suggest this to the dealer. BTW I had to wait 4 months to get this Landy from the factory but I still wish I had my TD5 back which I had 10 years of faultless use , well apart from stuff like it leaked, you couldn't shut the drivers door when it got hot on a long run, stuff like that which became part of its character after a while. But it never let me down and the only reason I have this new one was my TD5 was stolen off my own drive. I expect I will get used to the Puma but it doesn't sound like a Defender to me, and that's when the engine is working properly. Too quiet. |

I think you should let them know your not happy and are prepared to regett the landy. I am sure they will sort the fault. My local dealer said mine wasnt due for software update. Then a day later they call me and say its all fixed rob we have updated the software. Everything about the drive of the landy changed for the better. Now I am very happy with.

I have just had mine fixed (hopefully) after a year long battle with 5 trips to the dealer I bought it from and after giving up on them and taking it to another one.
Basically they kept saying it was a fuel pressure problem, however after 2 weeks at the new dealer they discovered a crack in one of the turbo pipes. |

Ok, that's interesting. Could you confirm that you had exactly the same symptoms, that is after the loss of power the engine temp shot up, then after the temp drops to normal the power comes back, then the cycle repeats it self. |

I never had any temperature problems, just extreme loss of power which seemed ok when you restarted the engine.

My 07 puma has the same problem usual between 2nd And 3rd gear changes. No power like extreme limp mode. Letting it idle and coast along for 5 seconds or so can fix it. Anyone got a solution or more importantly a reason!!

Update on my power loss problem. Dealer was told by Landrover to investigate cooling system as a prime suspect. The dealer first changed the 'engine temperature sensor', during the road test, the power loss happened again. I was relieved that at least they had the same fault so they new it really happened. They then changed the thermostat, this I'm pleased to say solved it. I can say for sure as I've driven the car to Italy and back with out any problems at all. I'm beginning to to really like the Puma now, re-building some trust in it. My only complaint on the trip was looking at the trip odometer on getting home, I had only done 320 miles! Studid thing only has 3 digits, I had to work out how many times it had gone round the clock. Straight out the Ford parts bin no doubt. Portafilter, I would take a close look at your engine temperature when you lose power, mine went up and down like a yoyo then the power came back on. |
