Surely the difference is “replace” and “repair”?
I once dented a wing and bumper on a Merc, top of the range jobbie with thirty grand's worth of extras, had a £1,000 insurance excess. A non-Merc stealer offered the option of repairing/bashing out the inner wing and invisible panels but by charging the full retail Merc prices to the insurance company he'd save me the thousand quid. It got better, on closer inspection a chassis member needed fettling and he said he could get the vehicle written off and the assessors would give me what I'd paid for it new (I'd gotten a good discount). “What, you'll be able to get for me what I paid for it ten months ago?” “Yes… of course you'll be needing a new car won't you, sir?''. And that, boys and girls, is how Mrs Birdy got bought a brand new Nissan Coupé for her birthday.. Peter |

Sorry Birdy I didn't make it clear, the door was actually replaced with a genuine brand new one not repaired. I even got discount on the door through my independant bodyshop which he incidentally purchased from the local stealer who wouldn't even negotiate a price with me for the whole job. Defender 90XS SW
