Wiring diagram for lighting?
Hi folks

I need to resolve an issue with my headlights and fog light.
If anyone has (or knows where I can find) the wiring diagram for a 2007 TDCi, it would be most appreciated.

Ill explain the problem anyway, in case anyone has any ideas:

A few weeks ago, the full beam flash function stopped working. I still had full beam and dipped beam, just no flash, so I assume that I just need a new switch. I havent done anything about it yet, and this may not be associated with the more recent issue.

Yesterday, whilst driving in fog at night, I had the fog light and dipped beam on. As the fog started to lift, i put full beam on and, a moment later, lost all lights! I had to continue with just side lights and dim-dip headlights and no fog light.

There are no blown fuses, and i know the bulbs are ok as i still have dim-dip.

Any ideas anyone?

Looks like i need to check the headlamp relay R123.
I found five relays by the fusebox beneath the steering wheel and a few more under the driver's seat but no clues as to which one is which.

I'd be inclined to suspect the main lighting switch first, the lighting relay R123 only switches the headlamps off when the ignition is off - the full lighting current still flows through the main switch.

Landrover corrected this on the last Defenders and there is a tech bulletin to address this on earlier models - LTB00467

The Boomslang loom or similar is probably the best long term solution though, especially as this stops the headlamp current flowing through the dipswitch (it could be failure of this that has stopped your main beam flash from working)

Thanks for your help dorsetsmith, i've swapped relays over and the fault still exists so i guess it must be the switch(es).

Fifth Horseman, thanks. It sounds like this is what needs to be done, as well as replace the switches, although it seems odd that it's taken 10 years to come to light (mind you, i've only had the motor for a year so maybe the switches have been replaced a few times already). Is this mod something i can have done for free by Land-Rover or would that only apply if it were under warrenty?

No, you need to do it yourself. It's not difficult or expensive though and there are loads of threads on the subject.
Basically the light switch isn't really up to the job and gives up the ghost. The wiring is also a bit pants and as a result limits the voltage to the lamps which makes them much dimmer than they should be. The relay mod fixes both issues and leaves a much more robust system with brighter lights too.

Or go for LED headlights, granted more expensive but a second option none the less without needing to add a loom. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Thanks guys
I'll do the mod next weekend. I guess now's the time to add an extra relay to allow additional lighting (i was thinking about a LED light bar on the roll cage) or will I not need this once i've done the mod?

It's easy enough to add another relay whilst you're at it, yes.

Having done the relay mod and switched to Wipac Crystal headlights that's made a big difference and I'm not in a rush to swap for LED headlights at the moment and at their current prices.

Of course once you've taken the load off the main light switch, you could always use the feed that used to supply the high beam to feed a small light bar.

Hi
Just to clarify... are you saying that the full current doesn't pass through the switch on the last models?
(I thought I had seen it mentioned before that the design stayed the same to the end of production )
Cheers

From 2012 model year (the introduction of the 2.2 engine) the wiring incorporated a relay so the main switch no longer carried the full headlamp current.
However as far as I'm aware the dip/main/indicator/horn switch carries the full headlamp current on all models up to the end of production, unfortunately this is the other failure point in the headlamp supply.
