Well there we have it, after years and years of dithering the government has decided to build another runway and terminal at Heathrow.
If we are very lucky in 25 years time after lots of arguing, law suits, activists complaining, companies lobbying we may even see it happen Much preferred Boris Island to be honest, would have been great for our country to actually build something purpose built rather than to "make do and mend" as usual Will it effect anybody on here? An even better idea: -
Build the Severn Barrage, incorporate a International Airport, 8 Lane Motorway toll free, Tidal Power, possibly a Nuclear Power Station, use the Barrage construction to use Landfill for many years, its a win win win win solution. We need a long term strategy not short term. NormanD WE191 2015 110 XS Utility 2014 VW Caravelle 180 Executive |

Absolute madness really, in an age of ever increasing terrorist threats lets increase the air traffic over our Capitol City instead of bringing it in over the Thames Estuary

I really can't see the sense in building more capacity at Heathrow. The road network is already at capacity. The M25 is gridlocked from 7am until 9pm in that section.
Surely it would be better to push many more flights to hubs around the country such as Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Bristol, Birmingham to free up Heathroe capacity for the long haul and key connections. etc etc Even build a new airport somewhere like Corby |

Living "up north" but travelling to London frequently (on Thursday!) I now hardly ever fly but use the train
Lots of flights are Internal The HS2 will kill many internal flights Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Couldn't agree more Scoobeenut. Stand in London and watch an A380 Super Jumbo fly across the sky and imagine the carnage if it dropped out of the sky and crashed in London. It doesn't even need terrorism. Planes are incredibly safe but anything mechanical will have the possibility of failure. Good job JLR don't make planes I suppose?

I can't see why they don't allow Gatwick and Heathrow to expand, that would take the pressure from them both . HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

There was rumour that Gatwick was going to get it's own expansion plans up and running if Heathrow was going to be awarded the expansion.
I agree with Dorsetsmith and JJ. The expansion of both always was and will be an inevitability. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I've got the feeling that by the time they get round to it things will have changed
Virtual meetings cutting the need for business travel Economic meltdown Huge pressure on greenhouse emissions. Also all this talk of it will create loads of jobs.... ... I live near Heathrow, it's Surrey not Sunderland, Surrey doesn't really need a load more jobs. |

If you throw a big wobbly they will actually let you fly without paying the leaving tax, but they make you sign a bit of paper saying that you'll pay it next time. |
