Living in Reigate at the time I spent over a year looking at property coincidentally within a 40 mile radius of Gatwick and it seemed where ever we looked planes would pass over at some poimt as they seem to change their routes. Now living about 25 miles away from Gatwick It doesn,t bother us when we get the occasional plane flying over. We seem to be on the very South of their routes which moslty go further north about 10-15 miles from flights in bound over the channel. I think they come near us when weather is bad or to give other areas a break... Not sure but I would like to know. I thought flying was all automated but each plane travels a slightly different route and altitude...
The occasional plane doesn,t bother us but I really feel we shouldn,t be expanding at all. I am not sure the internal combustion engine and the like and all this tech has really helped humanity. It may have helped business but not so sure about us, other life and the planet. |

Easy solution is to just fill up the planes that take-off and land at our existing airport, most flights i take always have empty seats. Also why dont they put the cargo planes into places like Farnborough, Northholt, Southend keeping them out of Heathrow & Gatwick, surely this would ease up runway usage. Having spent 32 years in the Royal Air Force being subjected to either ground-running, take off and landing 24/7/365 noise from various engines from Allison T56 Turboprop Engines, Rolls Royce Turbo Union RB199 Engines to Rolls Royce Conway RCo.42 Engines the silence and struggle to get good sleep without the noise on leaving the mob was quite unsettling. Noise is not an issue as the human body becomes both accustomed and conditioned to it.
Familymad and Muddybigdog your posts are extremely valid IMHO. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Problem is you make a lot more money from cargo planes than passenger ones.
I have no issue with investment, I was honestly expecting them to say to add a runway to both airports which will probably need to be done by 2025 when this is all meant to get underway. Not only airports but roads, Railways are starting to do better but the (mis)management is criminal! I do feel though they need to do it all over the country though. As many have commented, what about the north? what about the west? I can't remember the last time Cornwall got a big infrastructure project and still can't believe Dorset doesn't have a motorway! I am 100% in favour of Heathrow expansion, it makes a lot of sense for any number of reasons, not least of which is the
fact the a huge number of visitors to our country favour this airport over all other alternatives, plus it is a major international hub. It has excellent road and tube links. It is also the centre for exporting air cargo, courier and mail from the UK and has a massive existing infrastructure supporting these products already in place and working. As Heathrow has been around for some 70 years now, I really don't get the noise argument as any one still living prior to it being opened has actually been through the really noisy era of aircraft such a Comet, DC8, B707, 747-200, DC10 Trident and Concorde. Today's modern aircraft are so much quieter and less polluting than ever. I walk under the flight path daily and it has never been so good. It's a no brainer and what the country needs as Brexit turns us back into a more global trading nation. Sooner rather than later for the third runway and I hope Gatwick just goes ahead by itself too, |

it will never happen, not least due to the fact that there are no actual cargo facilities at either airport
