leg room
hi,i have a 99 110 hard top owned from new was going to be the" keeper "never going to sell etc,now all these years later with one knee partial replaced and the other on the way out i need more leg room,i have mudd bars and removed the bulkhead but at 6.4 i need to go back further,at the moment i can do about 1 hr driving before its killing me so my question is can the wheel arch that runs up to the bulkhead be cut back say 1ft and the seat moved back and fit a side window or should i sell my baby and buy a four seater and make up some loooong seat bars to get the leg room i need,also can a cruse control be retro fitted to a 99 td5

It should be possible to cut back the box over the wheel arch to do what you want, since there is nothing underneath it at that point other than wasted space. It is in effect the space that is the secodn row passenger footwell on station wagon and double cab variants.

I have no idea how much work is involved but I doubt it would be too difficult, especially if you have already removed the bulkhead.

It can be done, you'd probably need to add some new mounts to the chassis though. You'll need some way of bracing the rear of the seat mounts and you'll also need to move the seat belt mount points backwards if you're going so far back that the seat back is beyond any of the current mounting points. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Also look at replacing the handbrake lever.
Using a Disco2 one and moving it next to the cubby box.
I'm only 5.6 & has made a world of difference for my left leg, especially on longer trips.

I had a '03 90 with mudrails. At 6'2", I was comfortable with the seat all the way back. Your extra 2" would have struggled.
When I switched to a more recent 110, I was surprised at the extra legroom. In my new 110 SW with mudrails, I don't have the seat all the way back.
I'm not sure what's changed, it may just be the seat being slightly higher, but worth you taking a look (or someone more knowledgeable may reply).
Might be cheaper/easier to just replace your seats or findout what has changed.

When I had my 07 110SW I had MUD seat rails fitted to get the extra legroom (6ft tall), I now have a 15 plate 90 SW and don't have any seat raisers but seem to have adequate leg room, not sure what has changed. I don't think I have shrunk Very Happy

You can also replace the handbrake with one from a Range Rover Classic, just a couple of holes need to be drilled, no change to the cable or anything. This will increase the left leg room no end, also for the right leg a slight improvement is to get fabric or leather door grab handle, these will fold flat and allow and extra inch on the right side.

I like it, but not sure I'd want to lose my middle front seat. May have to get one and have a play with mounting options.
