No battery light - won't turn over
I have a 2005 td5 that won't turn over. There is no battery light on the dash, all the other lights work as normal.

If I bypass the SM relay it will fire up for 2 seconds before it shuts off and kicks in the immobiliser. I've had a look round the earths and can't see anything. I tried a new relay, made no difference.

Any ideas??

In my experience that means the immobiliser is still active.

Any immobiliser/alarm lamps active on the dash at all?

There's the red LED in the speedo, plus the red engine symbol with a lightning bolt through it (this gets triggered when the immobiliser is not deactivated before starting).  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

No immobiliser lights. I can switch the immobiliser off with Hawkeye (I think - I switch it off but when you go back in it says it's on again).

Check the fuses on the bulkhead, particularly 8 -> 15.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

All fuses are good.

I noticed that if I run a wire from the alternator earth to the body I get a battery light but still won't turn over.

What do they look like and where exactly are they. There was no earth that I could see on the transfer box, there is now because I put one on. transfer box -- chassis.
