I need some new springs for my TD5 90, i like what i have but they are getting worn and the power coating is pealing badly in places. I dont want heavy duty springs and i dont want Terrafirma springs to go with my shocks because they are +2" and i want to retain the standard height as i tow a lot and just dont need a lift, i get everywhere i need too no problem.
So im thinking i may as well get some genuine springs, all the other good quality springs seem to be either HD or lifted and the ones that arent come from sh#tpart or allparts, nither of which i have confidence in. So i have been looking at genuine springs for a 2011 90 CSW as i think they changed the springs for the puma 90 CSW? So can anybody tell me what the difference between the TD5 CSW and Puma CSW springs are (spring rates maybe?), will they fit the TD5, as far as i know the spring diameter hasnt changed, and are the rears duel rate springs? Has anybody else done this? Or failing that, anybody suggest a spring that wont break the bank but does what i need it to do (comfy ride but can carry a full payload without hitting the bump stops)? Many thanks Pete. |

Springs don't wear and they should not get weak for years and i have never heard of them being replaced due to paint flaking off!! OCD or what? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I always get my springs from what was Scorpion now Extreme and yes they do ordinary stuff very high quality, the orange powder coating has never come off my extra heavy dutys or anti roll bar If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Springs do wear and sag over time which effects handling and load carrying, and the powder coating has come off and is BADLY pitted where the coating is missing which will cause a weaknesses. Have you never seen a broken coil spring before due to age and fatigue? They normally break at the top coil, but wouldnt expect somebody who posts things like the above to check these kind of things. I suggest you get your facts correct before posting such flippant remarks when you do not know what you are talking about! Pete. |

They DON'T wear but they do go weak and drop but you never said this... And i have worked on Land Rovers for 35 years... How many miles has your vehicle done? TD5 90 Defenders had weak springing from new and will sit down with 500kgs. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Im looking for a better ride down rough tracks which i drive a lot as a farmer. Most 90 CSW's ive driven seem to cope with this a lot better which i have to put down to them having dues rate springs as the shocks are the same i believe. My understanding is that the duel rate springs allow slightly more movement at a lower spring rate when empty but still allowing loads to be carried without the back end sagging. My problem is im normally fully loaded or totally empty and want to get the ride as good as possible in both situations. Pete. |

i dont mean to nick pick but whats the difference between wear and and go weak? Surely the repeated use in articulation makes them weaker? i dont know, do they loose efficiency with time or usage? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I would advise OME all the way.
When I have the funds I will be getting a Gwyn Lewis setup which uses OME springs and shocks.... no lift but about an extra 11" travel Glyn |

From what i remember CSW ones are dual rate as you say, other spec ones aren't. i presume you have a non SW TD5 then? This is the case for 90s, i think the 110s are now the same SW or USW etc. Cheers
