Click image to enlarge Running 265s on mine. No rubbing and no lock requiring adjustment. It previously had 235s on. Also to note, you mention 235/75 whereas your comparison should be to 235/85 which has the same diameter as the 265/75 cheers North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader |

Yes your assumptions are correct.
The inside edge of your tyres will only be 15mm nearer with 265s , so you may not have to adjust anything. I prefer the look of 265s personally. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

Hope I haven't missed the point here but I think the two comparable Defender sizes usually are 235/85/16 and 265/75/16
Edited: Captain slow here! |

Ok I'm a little late to the party here but in the same quandary myself...
I'm erring towards the 265 on a looks basis but would the 235 be quieter. more economical and better off road (cut deeper into the mud)? Click image to enlarge Not mine but 265 KO2 on boosts looks pretty good I think! I have 235KM2's.
Never had an issue, they look good too and work superbly in all conditions. Would I go wider? Possibly, it'd be a hard decision to make. Yes, slightly narrower can cut in more than wider. Either has advantages and disadvantages to a minor degree. Fuel consumption wise, wider will use a touch more but likely to be negligible I'd have thought. |

Yes on all accounts, the wider you go the more mud you splash up your doors too.
Wider is better for cornering. I'm a definite narrow tyre believer, the higher the profile the better. |

235/85's on both of mine, but actually I do think it is a marginal call if you look at the numbers even though they do seem to look quite different - interesting egh ? Rob

Comparing my 7.50 Michelins to a 265 BFG KO2 I know I had a lot more control in sticky gloop, and that's my car with no traction control vs one that did have traction control. The KO2 had more tread and it looks more aggressive but I know which one I'd take.

I went from 235/85 to 285/75, and the difference in fuel economy was small.
Instead of 30-32mpg it was 28-30mpg. So 235 to 265 would be even less. As regards ability in the mud- it depends. Narrower tyres definitely cut through to hard ground better, but conversely sometimes you can dig yourself in rather through the mud if there is no real hard ground. Unfortunately all tyres are a compromise of sorts. Driver skill will overcome many problems ultimately . I was constantly get stuck with 235 a/t's but rarely get stuck now with 285's , but I used to be hopeless, I've got the hang of it a bit now after 4 years. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

jaytgi - you need to consider that the 285/75 is approx. 4% taller than the 235/85 so you speedo will now be reading 4% less than it was before, so your mpg probably hasn't changed by as much as you think

Of course your right!
My feeble brain is now wondering if that means my mileometer will also read less than my true mileage😀 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

IIRC the Defender speedo as standard shows approx 2mph more than your actual speed.
A sat hav further shows this often or not. |
