I'd say thin disc for straight cuts and jigsaw for corners, obviously everything would need to be taped up.

Managed to track down a set of replacements from Wigan Windows, the original manufacturer of my Windows. This meant no cutting, and in theory a quick straight swap out. I tackled the broken one first and it took me absolutely ages to fit. These ones are held in with the rubber seal and a closing strip, similar to old windscreens and I had a nightmare trying to prise the rubber seal in around the window.
Before I tackle the other, I have heard of a trick with some string that people used to do on windscreens where you pull the string and it lifts the rub er over the bodywork. Has any one heard of this, and if so how does it work as I don't want a repeat of the last times epic 3 hour installation. Ta 300tdi 90 1996. |

Put good strength string around the rubber in the gap that the panel of the car will sit in, get a friend to hold the window in place from outside with a little pressure on the window against the car. You jump in the car and slowly pull one side of the string towards the centre of the window till about half way around then start with the other end of string. As your pulling the string the edge of the seal should start lapping over the body panel. Don't be tempted to force the string if it's getting stuck as this could rip the seal, just try pulling in a circular motion or ask your friend not to put as much pressure on the window. Ray

Put the string (good strength string/cord because you don't want it to break when you pull it) all around window rubber channel in a loop and cross over slightly where the two ends meet. Think about where you want the ends of the string to meet so you have the best place to pull the ends of the string from where you decide to start. Then follow mk1collector's instructions.

Also a little lubrication (maybe liquid soap) on the seal edge might help, but it might make the string slippery to hold and pull. |
