Nice fix for the rear seats thats probably one of the most annoying noises! Mine are held together with a bungee.

A couple of bungees would have undoubtedly been a quicker fix
Only covered about 130 miles in relatively short journeys since that repair but so far, so good. I've got a longer run coming up this weekend, which will be a better test. On a vaguely related note, a few weeks ago I posted about replacing an exhaust heat shield, which also included repositioning it to what I thought was the correct place. This has made a huge difference to the cabin temperature, with the gearbox tunnel now no longer too hot to touch after a run! After a couple of weeks of steady preparation and parts collection, this afternoon I've finally fitted a new, later rear door to my 90, complete with matching later style hinges. The old door came off easily enough, but the old hinges put up more of a fight, needing three of the six bolts drilling out
Click image to enlarge The paintwork around the old hinges is quite poor too, but sorting that out will have to wait for another time. Whilst most of the parts are second hand, I've used all new stainless bolts and made rubber gaskets to fit between the hinges and the body and door. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The bolt kit came from SP4x4 and includes the three nut plates, which are quite nice. Click image to enlarge The one part that I did buy new is the lock. This is a pre-TD5 version that takes the narrower lock barrel, which I wanted to match the rest of the vehicle. It has a gasket made of closed cell foam between it and the door itself. Click image to enlarge With the new door on its' hinges, I then fitted all of the various ancillary components. The spare wheel carrier was also given a fresh coat of paint and again I made rubber gaskets for the mounting points. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge This was bolted on with new stainless flange head bolts. On the inside, instead of the large washers used in a standard install, I made up some spreader plates from 3mm aluminium. Click image to enlarge The wiper motor, wiring loom bracket and door stay were all fitted, with the latter matching up with the existing tub bracket, which was an unexpected bonus. With everything in place and the lock and latch adjusted, I then fitted the plastic door card and internal grab handle. The card that I've got is a bit battered and if I find a better one I'll replace it, but if not I may have a go at painting it. The finished article. It's great to have a door that doesn't need to be slammed to make it close! Click image to enlarge Ran out of time to fit the spare wheel but I also want to make a bracket to install a Tuff Lift, which I may get chance to do tomorrow. The only other outstanding task is to make a wiring loom for the electrical equipment, but again that'll have to be a job for another day! Yes, it's the post '02 pressed steel version. Much stronger and galvanised so shouldn't rust! Darren

A good mod/upgrade to mount the spare wheel carrier with the long spreader plates on the inside of the door rather than the large washers

I like the rear grab handles, we're they an option on Defenders or Series?

Great reading on the thread, absolutely love threads like these. The 200tdi is looking brilliant, very nifty but intelligent work being carried out - very neat indeed!!

Just a couple more to finish this bit off: the last thing to do was to mount the spare wheel but to avoid messing up my new paintwork, I made a rubber pad to fit to the carrier out of an offcut of the 5mm matting used for the rear load bed. Click image to enlarge And with the wheel finally in place: Click image to enlarge The door shuts with a nice, satisfying 'thunk' and doesn't need to be slammed anymore, which is nice.
