IID BT tool is my choice of a stand alone tool mainly because they have the most helpful customer service and are the only company actively improving their tools functions based on user feedback. JMTW :thumbsup:

My IID BT came with my BAS remap, maybe it doesnt have all features? Certainly doesn't have fob programming (which I needed!).
I'd also be interested to see if some kind of instantaneous mpg value could be distilled from all the live values... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Ive got two keys and two fobs so, with luck by the time I need that functionality, if it doesn't have it now, perhaps they will have added it by then!
Meanwhile, I'm just off to see if my fobs will float. What could possibly go wrong... |

If you're going to get an IIDTool, I thoroughly recommend going down the BAS RR2 remap route. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I have looked at that (and others) but as this is my first Defender (had series, RR and D1/D2 in the past), I'm going to see how I go for a while first.
I don't do heavy towing - it was bought for our work which sometimes involves the need to cross rough ground. Currently getting 33mpg on the first three tankfulls. I am a very sedate driver.....mostly...unless I'm on a bike. |

If you need key programming, let Gap know and they will hopefully let you have the latest update to include it. Last time I spoke to them it lt was still in beta but they let me try it. See post http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic38873-15.html way down on page two. It worked very well and programmed my new key no problem. It needed tweaking slightly but they may have ironed out the bug by now. (see above post). Hope it may help. Regards. Fletch. |

The IIDTool does have fob programming. Definitely.
I have an IIDTool that I'm currently having some issues with, but I have to say their customer service is currently spot on. We haven't managed to fix the problems yet but they are being helpful and replying promptly to emails even sometimes at 11PM. |

The BAS RR2 device is NOT an IID BT tool, it is a remote remap programming tool that happens to be built in a similar enclosure to the IID tool but has engine-only functionality. If you read the blurb on Pete's website he makes it very clear that this is the case.
Pete is also a distributor for the IID tool, and if you are in the market for one personally I recommend him as a supplier, since his aftersales service is second to none. I have no connection with Pete or BAS except as an extremely satisfied customer (my remap and my IID tool came from him), but I cannot recommend him too highly. To reiterate the point though, be aware that the BAS RRC2 and the IID BT tools are completely different tools for different purposes, albeit similar, and you need to make sure you buy the right one. |

They share not only the enclosure but many functions and user interface.
I could be wrong but coming from electronics manufacturing I know that many devices like this are built as the same unit in terms of both PCB, parts and MCU/FPGA etc but then simply programmed differently and/or put in a different cosmetic enclosure. (quite a lot like engines and tuning actually) Makes economic sense at certain scales of production. But yeah, again I could be wrong... but I suspect to get full functionality BAS would just need to pay more for an extended licence or similar and the functions would turn up in the next download. BAS would then pass those costs on to the customers - if they're just after the remap then maybe the lower cost is a good thing... Then again, maybe it is a completely different bundle of electronics for good reason, but I'd wonder why, considering the logic I outlined above. I'd never ever access my car's ECU with a mobile device, would you - honestly?
From my point of view: This sorts the IID tool out ( as long as I cannot service the ECU's software myself) Julia P.S. Feels also very uncomfy for me when the retailer accesses my car's ECU with his WiFi equiped laptop  |
