Fuel breather pipe, updated sump, leaking xfer box seal, clutch springs, inter cooler hoses, crappy gear change, axle casing snapping, comical security system, "hand built", headlight switch melting, integrated driver cold shower, badly put together output shafts causing victims (owners) to be stranded, poor paint finishes and unbelievable customer service ... And the vw guy is worried about some piston rings ... Unbelievable!!!

Navara D40 series, manufactured in Spain between July 2005 and January 2010, for an inspection.

40,000 out 90,0000 recall for chassis snapped

But Navara owners who opted for an aftermarket set-up with cracks in the chassis rails could face repair bills of $1000 or more.

``As a result, cracks can occur at the ends of the chassis rails,'' he said.

Mr Fadeyev said the vehicle's towing capacity was not being altered.
``The vehicle can still tow exactly what was identified in the owner's manual - that's the specification of the repair, the vehicle can still tow exactly what is identified as its capability in its manual from the start,'' he said.

The company has agreed to inspect customer vehicles fitted with a non-genuine towbar at no charge to the customer, but any chassis repair or replacement to a new revised-design genuine Nissan towbar will be at cost to the customer, Mr Fadeyev said.

The company said the inspection takes under 20 minutes to complete or the worst-case-scenario of inspection, repair and towbar replacement would be completed in under two hours.

Navara owners looking for more information are being asked to contact their local Nissan dealer or call the Nissan
Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 035 035.

Duff towbar mountings my foot. The problem is they make them out of metal so thin there's no strength in them whatsoever. Fact.

Need to melt down some extra bean tins and rusty exhausts in the datsun factory

and it is very interesting at VW will not be paying out compensation over the HC/CO frig in Europe Exclamation at all

Eh, I'm slightly confused about the D40 Navaras. They may be scrimping on the steel in the chassis which would explain their poor towing rating but they're still one of the heaviest pickups on the road. The new ones are much lighter and have a higher towing rating.

I've lost the pictures but my site manager had a 2007 navarra aventura which snapped its chassis. Factory fit towbar with the horrid chrome bumper.
He attached our 1.8m twin axle trailer loaded with approx 300kg of stone chip and pulled out of a yard when we actually heard it snap.

Shame really, I quite liked it. Leather, 6 speed, satnav, heated seats and quite nice to drive.

I don't quite understand the statement from Nissan, since all the pictures of Navaras with borken chassis that I have seen have snapped in front of the rear axle, usually between the cab and the bed. I cannot believe that this is anything to do with crack propogation from the towbar!
